Hey girls!
Has anyone successfully purchased a car seat for a 2 door sports car? DH drives a Jaguar XKR and the back seat depth is only 14 inches. I think the only seat that would work is a convertible seat, but I am really not holding my breath. We really only need to drive the babies a mile through our neighborhood to daycare. I think we are SOL, but I am willing to try. TIA!
Re: car seat for sports car
Well, even if you found a convertible car seat to fit such a small back seat, once the kid starts really growing, there won't be anywhere for him to put his legs.
So unless you're looking for a short-term solution, I think you're right about being SOL.
I think that the convertible car seats actually take up *more* room than an infant seat when they are rear-facing, which will be the case for at least the first year.
If you're set on keeping that car, can you just trade off cars for the day... whoever is taking the kids, takes the bigger car that day? We had to do that when we had my nephews. DH and I just traded cars whenever we needed the one with the car seats.
I kept my sporty car (Infiniti G35 coupe) for almost a year after DS was born. With the infant carrrier, it was fairly easy to slip in and out of the back seats. I used the Infant carrier for about 10 months before he grew out of it height-wise.
I tried to keep my car, so I got the Combi Coccoro convertible seat, thinking that since it was smaller, it would take up less space RF. Unfortuntately b/c of the bucket seats in the back, by the time we got it level by stuffing towels, etc. under the carseat, it took just as much room as the Recaro Signo that we have. I think the Combi is good for smaller cars, but more for smaller sedans.
The convertible carseat is a PITA b/c since it is stationary. I would have to physically get in the backseat to put him in (which I do not think would be doable with 2 carseats RF in the back). The infant carrier took about the same amount of space as the convertible. The person who sat in my passenger seat literally had their knees in the dashboard - not comfortable! If you had 2 carseats in the back, you would have to have a pretty short driver! How tall is your DH?
In the end, we traded in "my baby" for a Honda Pilot. I fought tooth and nail all the way, but now, I am ok with the decision. I really like my Pilot and it wasn't as bad of a switch as I thought it would be.
GL! :-)
Ditto. We didn't really see the need for DH to get rid of his car. In our situation I SAH with DD and DH only drives to work and back home. Now, if he has to drop the babies off and you pick them up after work...that's a different story.
So Tasty, So Yummy
I'm not familar with many of these seats but I found this -

I forgot to say that my infant carrier/base was a Graco Snugride.
But they are having twins
Rear facing seats are just hard. My husband drives a sedan but we can't have a rear facing seat behind him b/c he's tall and has to have the seat back.
