Trying to Get Pregnant

Affects going off BC?!

I stopped taking BC as of May 15th this year. Has anyone else's body just gone whack after stopping BC?!?! I am talking to my good friend who is pregnant and asking her things but her only side effect of going off BC was differences in her period, no actually feeling anything different. I just want to make sure I am NOT crazy and it can be common for some people to actually just be totally out of whack after going off BC (and I'm taking Prenatal Vitamins as well and I read they can cause some of the things I'm feeling), but, I am going crazy thinking these things are just in my head. Thank you!! :)

Re: Affects going off BC?!

  • The side Effects from going off of BC differ for everyone.

I didn't have too many problems until PMS times. Then the cramps, breakout and mood swings got pretty difficult.

Some women say that they get headaches and upset stomaches after going off the pill.

It can take up to a year to regulate off the pill. Some regulate right away.

    Best of Luck

  • BCP are artificial hormones, they cause different people to react differently. Don't worry too much about it, most people's bodies go crazy after going of bcp

  • I went off BCPs in Sept. of 09 and have yet to ovulate, so yeah you could say I'm a little "out of whack". Have you read Taking Charge of Your Fertility? I would highly recommend it- good luck!

  • i didn't have any effects other than longer than normal cycles.  my first 2 cycles off bcp were 48 and 46 days.
So happy for my BFPB Steff13914 and her new twins! Welcome to the world sweet babies:) Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • I have heard a lot about Taking Charge Of Your Fertility, I am going to see if our library has it to read it!! I'm trying to not get TOO overly crazy with TTC, keeping it fun & the attitude if it happens, it happens. However, with my body just out of whack I'm ready to fine tune it back to normal!!!

    Thank you! Yes

  • I went off the pill the first week in feb. My cycles have been getting longer and longer ever since. About the 3rd week off the pill I would wake up at night all sweaty, yuck. Now, i just need my cycles to stabilize. Everyone is different and some people regulate right away and some people still have trouble months later. Good luck!!

  • Oh yes. I was a mess for MONTHS.
  • I haven't experienced too many problems other than a slightly longer than usual cycle the first month. It was 33 days and before BC mine were between 27 and 30. Last month my cycle was 29 days, and no unusual symptoms other than spotting a few days before my period.

It can take a while to regulate though. Just because you feel wacky this cycle doesn't mean next cycle will be the same. And the opposite is true for me, just because I feel normal these past 2 cycles doesn't mean I won't get a wonky one. I would suggest charting to really get a clear picture on what your cycles are doing. Good luck.

  • You're not crazy! After stopping BCPs in January and allowing my hormones to regulate (okay, still regulating) I decided that the next time my fiance and I TTA, it will not be with the help of BCPs...Adios! I find it interesting that when I went on them nobody told me what would happen when I didn't want to take them anymore! Crazy!

Curious as to how you plan to do that, exactly.

I wouldn't get it from the library, I'd buy it. It's pretty cheap on Amazon, and it's a great reference to keep coming back to.

This is me as well. I don't ever want to use hormonal birth control again, and I haven't had some of the craziness a lot of ladies have.

I did have headaches at first, but I had also stopped my migraine meds, so my body was also adjusting to that. I had a good two weeks of awful PMS, mostly moodiness and SORE boobs.

My actual cycles went right back to "normal" for me as far as timing, though my PMS symptoms were just as bad as before BCP.

The two worst were weight gain and acne. I gained a lot of weight very rapidly in the beginning and I am having trouble getting it off. I kept expecting my skin to adjust, but 10 cycles later, not so much. I had to break down and go back to ProActiv in the hope of clearing it up.

  • These ladies pretty much summed it all up. I had terrible headaches and bleeding. Then I broke out in the face, terrible mood swings. It took forever for my cycles to become normal before I even started charting and these ladies are who recommended that I do so and i am still slacking on that! Good luck to you!

  • When I went off my BC, I had no really symptoms of it.. My cycles have been regular since I came off mine in March. I can tell a little more that AF was visiting but that is about it.. These ladies are great to talk to and they know what they are talking about so listen to them.. I would watch and then if you notice severe problems, I would notify my MD.
  • Yes!  I feel the same way.  My poor husband can't keep up with all my different moods since kicking the BCPs.  Ugh.
  • I honestly felt better after going off birth control pills. I started to have more interest in sex, was less anxious, and actually felt happier. I definitely had some issues with regulating and feeling crampy, sore boobs and that stuff, but after about 2 months that has gotten better. My cycle has started to regulate and I chart to help me know I ovulate which has made me feel a lot more confident about TTC.
