Yeast infection?

I woke up really itchy down there this morning...and it's kind of been ongoing all day. Not crazy itchy, but itchy.

I've never had a yeast infection but I think I heard they were more common in pregnancies? I could be totally wrong though. I haven't done anything out of the ordinary in the past few days, except using a new soap in the shower last night..

My dr.'s office is closed so I will call and speak with a nurse in the morning, but in the meantime I was wondering if any of you had any thoughts.

Thanks!

Re: Yeast infection?

  • First, switch back to your old soap tonight.

Second, definitely call your doctor.  It could be a bacterial infection, rather than a yeast infection, and the two are treated completely differently.

Third, I had a little itching a couple of times since I've been pregnant, but there wasn't really anything to it.  It didn't last for very long.

  • It might definitely be the start of one... Try eating some yogurt. A lot of times if you eat some yogurt right away it will help!
  • You don't really have to do much to get a YI and even never having had one you can still get it.

You can get over the counter medicine for it that you can apply to the outside at least to ease the itching until you can go to your doctor.
  • Definitely could be a yeast infection, but I would definitely switch your soap back.  Your skin is extra sensitive right now and you may have a reaction to the new soap.  The only soap I use down there is Dove, unscented hypoallergenic.  Pregnant women are prone to yeast infections due the change in hormones, drop in immune system etc...  I have been taking an OTC probiotic on the advice of my OB and it cleared up one that had started and I haven't had problems since.

That said, you always want to get a YI verified by your doctor before you treat it.  It could be a lot of other things.

I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

"It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?" - A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh
  • I take an OTC Probiotic to help keep everything balanced...you may try that. AZO makes a good brand!
