How many of you have/had them?
I know that there are safety concerns over them, but I guess I kinda feel like any piece of equipment could be a safety concern...you just have to watch them in them.
Aubrey's pedi told me at her 6 month appointment to be working with her on her leg strength. We have a jumperoo, and while she loves playing in it, she really only barely jumps. I *think* she is trying to start crawling...she gets up on all 4's and rocks...I figure it's coming at some point. She scoots around on her belly a lot lol. But I was thinking maybe a walker might help with her leg strength as well. We have wood floors through out our house so it's a good surface for one.
What do ya'll think? Should I get one with her being almost 8 months old or would it be a waste of money?
Re: Walkers?
I haven't had any experience with one yet, but I'm with you, any piece of equipment/toy can be a hazard.
I actually have tons of baby pix of me in a walker when I was little. I know it was 30 years ago, however my mom said that I loved my walker and I would think as long as necessary precautions are taken they would be fine.
I don't see the harm in it. But then, I also don't have stairs in my house. I agree with you that it can be safe as long as you watch LO while they're in use.
I don't think Aubrey's too old though, I'd think she's right on time. Mitchell is 10+ months and he pulls up and grazes around things while standing (coffee table ottoman, sofa, etc.). He has this standing musical toy that he has started to push across the room, along with anything else he can move on his own, so even at this age I'm considering getting a push walker for him. I'm looking for something second hand though b/c I know he'll likely be walking in no time. Something along these lines:
I think he'd still get some use out of it once he's walking playing with the other features.
I had thought about getting one a few months ago, when K was interested in getting around but couldn't walk yet. But honestly, K went from cruising to running around so fast that I didn't ever get one.
Honestly, at this point, I'd just wait it out.

We have one of these as well. Abby loved it and it really helped her in learning to walk.
Like Lydia said...we had thought about getting a walker, but now Abby is walking all over the place (she started about 2.5 weeks ago).
we got a cheap one to try out, and he is not really into it. it took him a while to learn to take steps in it - he thought it was another jumperoo and just wanted to jump in it!
he does like his little standup toys like the one posted above.
We had this too. DS loved it. He used it to walk but was also really into the toy itself. One of his first words was letters....those were his "letters" he was mailing.
