Dr. Browns Bottle users come in

I have been using the Dr. Browns wide- neck and regular 4oz bottles since LO was born. She is starting to eat 5 oz occasionally so I introduced the Dr. Browns wide neck & regular 8 oz bottle recently. She is sucking differently-she does not take the whole nipple into her mouth and seems to be sucking using only the very tip of the nipple. I am using both level 1 nipples on the 4 oz & 8 oz bottles. Anyone else experience this?

Re: Dr. Browns Bottle users come in

  • Hmmm....no.  We're on Dr. Brown's and use the regular bottles with both level 1's and 2's (whatever is closest or on the drying rack).  DD's lips almost touch the white base.

  • We use both size bottles and size 1 nipples.  DD doesn't take the whole nipple in her mouth.  She chokes when she puts the whole thing in.  She is also tounge tied so she doesn't suck like a baby that isn't.
  • i use the wide-neck bottles (8oz) since week 2. she doesn't put her mouth all the way around the nipple - where it gets wide, but she is doing better with it now. if she had her way in the beginning she would  just suck on the tip, hence BFing was painful. i tried the regular size bottles and she would gag/choke herself with the nipple since she would be all the way to the white ring. just keep working on the nipples, now my DD flanges her lips around the wide part of the nipple making for much cleaner eating!

  • The nipples are the same for the different size bottles. Could it be the way you're holding the bottle?

Hmmmm...I think I am holding the bottles the same.

It is really strange that she is sucking on the same nipples differently when using the 8 oz bottles. I was thinking that maybe the vacuum in the larger bottle is different and changed the flow or something???

Curious to see if anyone else experienced this.
