2 Questions re: Flat Spots and TV

First, the flat spot.  Timm has one on his head.  K has one in the same spot.  It isn't where they sleep or lay on their heads.  And I always make sure her head is turned one way or the other when she is sleeping.  I wonder if it is genes.  I will ask the doc at her 4 month well baby check up.  But do you ladies have any insight?

Next, the TV.  I usually have music on during the day but sometimes I watch a movie to get her to go to sleep.  Especially when she won't nap during the day.  But when I went to mommy and me the other day, the other ladies were all upset when their kids looked at the TV because they are just zoning out.  But at this age, no looking around is zoning out, right?  She has to learn how to use her eyes.

I would think that the changing screen would help teach her to focus right now.  I am not going to let her zone out in front of the TV but I don't think it is necessary to freak out if she is looking at the TV right now.  She's only almost 3 months old.

Am I way off?  She really likes to watch hockey too.  I think its cute.

Thanks ladies!

  • I had the TV on all the time when Rowen was little (I like it for background noise).  It wasn't like he was sitting there staring at the screen all day though.  In fact, he rarely ever even looked at the screen.  I wouldn't worry about it unless you were propping your kid up in front of the TV for hours on end.

  • I have the tv on all the time too, Austin never pays attention to it. Every now and then if there is a dog barking or a kid laughing he will stop and look at the tv, but for the most part his is so active he doesn't have time to stop and watch.

  • I don't know about the flat spot but kinda sounds genetic. I'm surprised you could even tell it's there with all that hair! As for the tv, I'm not a fan and I don't think it's good for kids. That said, Bs swing kinda faces the tv, and I figure if I'm not there talking to her, it's probably better for her to be looking at moving colors and shapes than at a blank screen. She doesn't pay that much attention to it anyway. I think a little background tv won't hurt anything.
