If your DC is now (or has been) on a late wakeup/nap schedule..

Can you post your daily schedule?

And if anyone was on a late schedule and shifted earlier, was it hard?  How did you do it?

My DD is on a late schedule, we didn't do it on purpose, it just sortof happened.   But it works really well for us because this way my DH gets to see her for a little bit at night.  Also, I work part-time from home and DH takes care of DD while I do some work at night.

But I am concerned about how hard it will be to change her to an earlier schedule later on (she is 2).  Also, with the late schedule I feel like we don't have as much time during the day...maybe because part of her awake play time is after dinner...

Re: If your DC is now (or has been) on a late wakeup/nap schedule..

  • Hi.  What is late?

DD goes to bed around 9 and wakes up around 9.  She naps around 2:30/3:00- 4:45ish.  She is 21 months.

It works for us.  I work evenings while DH is home.  Gives them time to hang out and for us to have dinner once I get back from work.  We (she and I) have plenty of years to get up early to get to school, etc.  I really don't foresee it being terribly hard so we don't plan to change things until she starts school or some other circumstance makes in necessary to change.

Right now, sleeping until 8 or 9 and leisurely playing and sipping coffee until mid morning is lovely.  I will want back this time once we are trying to get out the door by 7:30 for the 13 years of school!!

  • We've never been early risers.  No one in our house gets up before 8:00.  My DH gets home from work a little after 7:00 so I give DS (who is 4) a late nap (3-6) and he stays up until 9-10.  I don't mind it at all.  I am going to be homeschooling so it won't matter.  When the twins come we might change stuff up.  We will see how they do.
  • DD is on a late schedule.  She goes to bed at 8:30/9pm and wakes up around 9/9:30am.  Breakfast is around 10ish.  Lunch at 1ish.  Nap is 2:30-4:30 (sometimes longer, sometimes shorter).  Dinner is around 6ish.

We love it.  I can't imagine getting up before 8:30, and DH also sleeps in.  The only part I find challenging is that lots of the storytimes/classes for her age group are at 10am, so some days I'm forced to wake her up.  Most days, we are racing out the door in the morning, but I find that gives us enough time to do whatever we need to and be back in time for lunch.  There's also plenty of time at night for DH to see and play with DD.

It has crossed my mind that we'll have to get her on an earlier schedule at some point (when she starts school), but for now, I'm not in a hurry at all to change anything.

  • Thanks for the replies!  We are a little later than that...she goes to bed around 10:30-11 and wakes up around 9:30-10. And she goes in for her nap anytime between 3 and 5 depending on the day and what we are doing.... But I like it and it works well for us...although our families give us a hard time about it.

And yeah, we can't do those 10am  library story times...we are doing a 10:30 swim class now and have to wake DD and she is just so extra tired and cranky that day! Luckily just a few more weeks of that.  :)

  • DS has always been a good sleeper... right now he either:

    a. wakes up around 7 or 8am, has a bottle and falls back asleep until around 11-noon

    b. wakes up around 10-10:30am for the day ready to go

Either way he takes a nap around 4 and sleeps until 6-7 depending on his wake up time in the morning, and goes to sleep for the night around 8:30pm.

So yeah our schedule is kind of odd I suppose, but like the pp said none of us have ever been early risers, DH is a bartender and works nights so neither of us wake up until DS does (except for when I'm in school, I normally have class around 11am). It works out for us, and I'm really not worried about changing it. I'm sure it will change on it's own eventually.

This. Well the schedule part, except he naps 2-4, then a hour around 7.

  • My kids get up any time between 7-930. I know that's a pretty big range, but that's just how they are. I put them down for naps between 2-4. Bed time is usually around 10pm.

Mine are 2 and 4 yrs old and have had the same schedule since they were babies. It just kind of fell in that way and I went with it, fine tuning it as necessary.

This is our schedule as well. We home school so it doesn't really matter to me.
