Cleaning/sterilizing pump parts & bottles

Am I being excessive?  I wash everything with soap & water after each use & then sterilize everything in a microwave sterilizer.  What step can I cut out?

  • You can't be too safe.  I usually wash in hot soapy water with a brush and boil or steam bag the parts every few uses.

After 11 months I am a little lax!  I wash my pump parts with hot, soapy water once a day (maybe every other day). I keep the parts in the fridge during the day. I steam clean once a week. Once a month I clean the parts with a q-tip.

  • I wash and sterilize in the microwave after each use,  but I only pump 2 to 3 times a day and have bought extra parts so it's not dependent on if I  got around to doing it in the morning, night etc.
  • I sterilize everything each night.  I just rinse between pumping sessions and I have an extra set of pumping parts.  typically pump 3-4 times in a day so I use each set about twice a day - just rinsing in between.

You can cut down to sterilizing only once a week.  I usually run them through the dishwasher and hit the sterilize button, so I cheat!
