It's a gift from new Dad to new Mom post delivery to thank them for pushing the kid out. I had never heard of it till I saw this DadLab video. I hadn't heard of DadLabs until I accidently found them on youtube yesterday.
Here's a video for your husbands if you would like a push present.
Re: Ever heard of Push Presents?
I think something to commemerate the event like a small piece of jewlery is nice, kind of like the earrings DH gave me on our wedding day, or the necklace my mom gave me when I graduated high school. Sentimental, material reminder, something you can pass down, but certainly not a must have.
But I think the term "push present" is stupid just like I think "babymoon" is stupid.
Instead of "thanking" us for pushing a kid out. It should be more of a:
'Please except this gift as an appology for making the last 9 months what they were. Espeically that time when you were throwing up and I was [insert manly task here]. But mostly I'm sorry I made your vajayjay your worse nightmare. Ps We are still gonna have sex tonight right?'
HAHAHA silly boys.
I always knew (from the youngest of ages) that my dad had bought my mom a piece of jewelry when my sister and I were each born. When we turned 16, my mom gave us the jewelry he had given her. I just thought it was nice. DH said he wanted to buy me a piece of jewelry too because he liked that my dad had done that, so he's going to.
Then recently, I heard someone say "Oh so he's buying you a push present". I think that is the MOST VULGAR terminology I've ever heard. It makes me cringe (worse than when someone says they're prego). DH wants to get me something because he thinks I'm going through a lot to bring our child into the world (happy to do so but irrespective...) and wants to do something nice for me. It's not a present for pushing. It's a present for having our child's life in my body and bringing our child into the world.
Sorry for the babble, but the phrase just irks me!
I find them vulgar. I'm not a king's mistress being bought off with baubles. Do I get a tennis bracelet for a girl and a diamond solitaire if I give him an heir? Gah.
Comparatively, I thought the idea of a babymoon was cute and delightful and I'm so glad we took one.
My husband will be giving me plenty of help and assistance in the hospital and in the days after. My job is to have the baby -- his job is to help out. It's OUR child.
If he wants to do something nice for me after hours of labor, he can get me some SUSHI!!!!
I've heard of push presents and would be happy to receive jewelry at any time, regardless of the occasion. But I don't think I'll notice if he doesn't give me anything. As for the above, comparing a husband happily contributing his sperm during an orgasm during sex to 9 months of pregnancy and a painful labor is ridiculous.

See, I think that's really sweet. A present to celebrate birth that later on is granted to the daughters to commemorate her sweet 16? Adorable and sentimental.
A present to "reward" the woman for her hard labor, which is what the term "push present" brings to mind, is problematic.
Yeah I knew a girl that got for:
Baby #1: at least a 2.5 carat diamond solitaire necklace
Baby #2: New BMW M3
Ridic!
Oh, because he forced you? Poked holes in the condom? Replaced your BC with tic tacs?....

I am so sorry you were not an active and knowing participant in the event that got you pregnant. Someone really should have explained to you how conception happens. Major oversight.
I had never heard of them till about 2 years ago when all my friends started having babies.
I think it can be nice if it's something your husband thinks of and wants to do for you. But I am not expecting one.
It kind of sucks too because most of my friends have gotten big things like sewing machines, laptops, spa days. Come On there is no need for anything this elaborate. But I kind of think it's almost a status thing amoung my friends.
My Husband has heard them being talked about and thinks there stupid. I am cool with that.
Try hiding my Nuva Ring after the fact, then having my mom threaten a voodoo hex on me if I had another abortion....
Yeah... what's the saying... "Unless you've walked a mile....
Oh, FFS. Hiding your BC after the fact? You do know that you are supposed to use BC all the time for it to work, right? Not after you've already had unprotected sex. And if you've already had one abortion because you didn't want a child, you should have taken proper precautions, or double up your BC methods.
Wow... I've never seen people so worked up over internet quips. I'd hate to see how you handle humor in real life.
Edited to add the fact that I'm going to get some nachos and reeses peanut butter cups. Catch ya on the flip side.
I handle humor IRL just fine, thanks. And online for that matter. When it's funny. That wasn't. It's not worth explaining further.
Yay for you they have some great adoption agencies in Hawaii:

Check it out, because seriously if you could even joke that the day your child is born the dad should give you an apology the last thing the kid needs is you.
And if this was your attempt at a joke, you absolutely fail.
