Elyse is a party girl

My child will not sleep.

Yesterday she only had 2 thirty minute naps.  I could tell she was tired because she has huge bags under her eyes, was rubbing her eyes and yawning, but she was fighting sleep like crazy.  But she wouldn't sleep.

She went down really easily at 7:30, but when I did the dream feed at 10:00 she stayed awake until 12:30.  I didn't do anything differently, but she was WIDE awake.

I gave up on the rocking, jiggling and shushing at 11:00.  We laid down on her bedroom floor and she talked and had a gay old time until 12:30.

Sigh

  • Libby has been more wakeful lately too and is not napping as well or going down very easily.  I have read that it can be developmental...is Elyse working on any major milestones right now?

If so, they could be the reason for her wakefulness.  If baby is going through a developmental milestone, a baby will practice these skills any chance they get - including bedtime. In all of my research it basically says "this too shall pass"...so hang in their mama!.  I've found that when all else fails I can put her in her swing and she'll talk to the mobile and listen to the music and finally konk out.

  • jack has been doing the same thing lately.  It's like he can sense when it's bedtime so he starts being really cute - he smiles at us, laughs, coos, etc so we play with him for a while (much better than crying I guess).  So then we turn off the lights and he still just keeps talking, playing with his hands, and squealing so we get up and try to wear him out and send him relaxing cues by sing soothing songs and putting him in our bed to cuddle.  it's crazy.
  • Sorry, Teri.  It sounds like you and I are just in for a constant battle with the sleep monster.  Hope it gets better soon!

  • She's not really doing anything new (that I've noticed), but I've heard that they sleep less when they're developing as well.  Which is why I don't think she slept AT ALL during her 4th month.

I lurk on the bump boards and the ladies on 6-9 say they noticed the most change in their babies in the 7th month.  I thought the 4th month had a lot of changes, so I'm really looking forward to seeing how she'll change next!!

She's sleeping better today...  she's on her second good nap.

  • How funny! Well at least she was happy during that time and not fussing. Smile

I've heard sleeplessness is often due to developing as well...I bet you'll be posting in a couple of days about some cool new thing she's doing. Big Smile

If she is sleeping well now already, I wonder if it has anything to do with being away for the weekend? Just curious, since it happened right after you guys got back. Either way, hope she sleeps more/better now!

I wondered that too?  She's definately off her normal routine still today.

Hmmmmm?  Or maybe it's a new phase?
