Do you have a set list of rules for your kids? I'm taking a parenting class and need to have 4 or 5 rules and their consequences. I always thought I was too tough on C but, I'm really struggling with this. She's not quite 3, I can't quite decide what's really important and what is appropriate for punishments. I suddenly feel so useless and crappy as a mother!
Re: What are your house rules?
No throwing anything in the house.
No running in the house.
No biting, hitting, kicking or stomping.
No jumping on (or off) the furniture.
No running in the house
No bouncing balls in the living room.
Stay out of the cooking area of the kitchen.
Stay off the stairs.
Leave the computer and dvd case alone.
Dont touch the DVR cable box, Xbox or Wii.
No playing on the computer chair.
We use redirection but I dont think it works. They just come back to it. I think we are going to start a more strict TO system. That and DH spanks. I do at times after I do TO and have gotten onto them for the same thing more than twice.
We need help in this area as well. They are always breaking our rules.
But I think that part of it is being a toddler.
Wow, we don't have a list of rules, maybe we should.
As for the yelling and running? DD and I do alot of yelling and running in our house. Maybe I set a bad example for her, it's not mad yelling, it's just the fun kind.
Listen to what mom/dad says
No hitting/kicking/biting
Food and drinks stay at the table
You can leave the table w/o eating your meal, but if you get hungry you have to eat your meal before you get a snack. Also, you can chose what you eat, but I won't make you something else if you change your mind.
Also, if mom/dad has to clean up your toys, you don't get them back until the next day.
The usual no hitting, biting, yelling... He gets time outs for those things.
The other rule we have is no throwing toys. If he throws his toys he gets a warning and after that the toy gets a time out for the rest of the day. We put it up and he can't play with it. He gets really mad, but it is effective. He rarely throws things now. lol
We also do a lot of running and yelling in the house.
We yell. For sure.
The running thing...I don't necessarily have a problem with it, especially at this age, except that one time L was running & bit it...hard...right on his face. I was terrified he'd broken his nose. The mental picture of that comes back to me everytime I see him running. He doesn't get punished for that, it's just a "slow down, buddy" reminder.
Mrs Stubbs, I am right there with you. We run and yell around the house for fun all the time... EEK I pray I am not being a bad example, but it's fun
