Toddlers: 24 Months+

binky or toddler bed first?

My daughter will be turning 2 next week.   We were planning on getting rid of the binky around her second bday and transitioning her into a big girl bed a few months later.   She typically only uses her binky when sleeping.

Here is our dilema, a few days ago I went to go get her in the morning and she was outside of her crib!   She is on the second floor and we are on the first floor, we have a monitor- but I didnt hear anything that would make me think she crawled/jumped or fell out of her crib.  But obviously she got out and now I am feeling that we should switch her to a "big girl bed" sooner than later.  She hasnt gotten out again, but worried that she will and get hurt trying.

And the binky really needs to go, she was doing really good about only using it when sleeping for the past year, but lately she is asking for it more often and really really wants it when in the car (cries the whole car ride b/c we wont give it to her!)  It is causing her more fits than needed :)

So here is the question, what do we do first, get rid of binky or big girl bed and how far apart?  Did anyone else deal with a similar situation?

TIA & sorry for this post being so long winded!

Re: binky or toddler bed first?

  • Since she is crawling out of the crib I would say toddler bed.
  • Loading the player...
  • Hmm...physical needs or increasingly emotional tie...I know this sounds cold but I think I'd do both. I know that would be hard but seriously, paci removal is way harder in theory than practice if you go cold turkey. Just don't waver and its over so fast. And with the toddler bed, why not set it up and just give it a try? We were shocked that DD wanted to sleep in it from day 1 and has only gotten out twice ever. Do whatever you two can live with, but that's what worked for us
