Success after IF

XP from PAIF: Pertussis Vaccine

AKA whooping couch. TLC has been advertising this vaccine the past few weeks. I'm going to ask my OB about it on my next appointment. Anybody getting the shot?

  • I got it after I delivered (not at the hospital though).
  • no i'm not.

I'm actually 100% against advertising of vaccines and medication. If it's something my doctor thinks I need, she'll bring it up.

This. And DH also got it a month or so before E was born at a routine appt.

After 20 months, 3 Clomid cycles and 4 IUI cycles, IVF #1 with ICSI = BFP!

  • i did.  my DD's pediatrician gave it to both my DH and i at one of her early well baby visits.
  • I got it after I had the baby - 2wks or 1wk after.  It made my arm sore for awhile -think it was from that one and not the flu shot...
  • I wish I had known to get it.  My son got Whooping cough when he was 6 months old and my DH and I have always feared we gave it to him (DH travels for work).

Jake wasn't super sick, but it was like he had the plague.  Some of my pg friends who were near him before we knew he was sick had to go on preventative antibiotics.  He couldn't be in daycare for a week.  Anyone in his daycare class that had a cough couldn't be in daycare and all had to be tested.  The health department got involved.  It was really a nightmare.

That sounds miserable. :( I'm so sorry your LO had to go through that.

  • I think teething has been much worse for him!  We didn't know he was sick because he would just cough at night and we thought it was allergies/cold. Even our doctor didn't think it was WC, but at the last minute decided to have him tested.  It was just the fact so many other people could get really sick if exposed to it that was scary.  That's why I am a huge advocate now!  Thank you for thinking of him !!
  • Yup we all got it.  DH got it about a month or so before Jake was born, and I got it shortly after he was born (like 1-2 weeks after). My OB and Jake's pedi both told us that anyone who would be caring for Jake (like us or a babysitter) should have it.

Huh? I get not backing advertisements for drugs, but I also do not think that all doctors know or think to let their patients know that pertussis is most commonly transmitted by adult caregivers who have not received a booster. Are you opposed to getting it because it is advertized, or would you be opposed to simply asking your doctor about it?

Which of course, reminds me that I need to make an appt to get said booster :)  One of my BFFs had pertussis last year and it sounded just awful.
