Pregnant after a Loss

I now know what my breaking point is

This weekend I was about ready to commit myself for having a nervous breakdown.  Both Porkchop and Jasper had problems all weekend that caused them to be crazy itchy.  Jasper usually sleeps in our bedroom, so this equaled not much sleep.  Saturday morning, DH decides to go out mountain biking.  So for several hours I was trapped in the house trying to figure out what was wrong with two itchy dogs and keep them from going crazy trying to scratch.

Then DH comes home around 1.  I think, "great, finally, we can get out of the house and do something."  Yeah, not so much.  DH hurt his foot pretty bad and couldn't walk.  So instead, I spent the rest of my weekend doing everything in the house because DH couldn't walk, still not sleeping because of the dogs, and just generally going insane.

ETA: To summarize, my breaking point is two itchy dogs, a sprained foot, and no sleep.

  • Oh no that sucks - I hope this weekend is much better for you.  Do the dogs have flees maybe?  Or maybe ear mites?  I know our dog was scratching up a storm Saturday night driving me loco but then nothing since.  I checked her for mites and ticks but neither of those.

It doesn't seem to be fleas.  I have scoured over them and couldn't find any fleas.  And we gave the little dog a bath with flea and tick shampoo and there were no fleas.

I think we might have figured out that the big dog was having a problem with his ear.  I have some ear wash from a previous ear ache that had and we gave that to him yesterday for the first time.  It seemed to help quite a bit.  So one dog might be better.

The little one, though....I'm at a loss.

  • Could Jasper be imitating Porkchop? maybe Jasper has just a tiny bit of wax in there? I use a Q-tip on my little chihuahua only on the wax I can see and never put it in too far but it gets the gunk out.

Or how long ago did you give them the bath? maybe they are itchy from the shampoo?

  • It is possible for them to be itchy, and for you to not see a flea - if they have very sensitive skin, they can itch like crazy.  However, I would probably put my money on allergies, if you've ruled out all else.  Have they had these problems before?  Have you tried using antihistamines with them before?  Unfortuanately, I will be leaving for work, but I would follow-up with your regular vet, so that you can get some rest this week!

Sorry you had a rough weekend :(

  • That doesn't sound like a fun weekend at all. I hope you get some sleep soon and DH and the dogs feel better!

Pork has allergies and has had every problem under the sun before, so it's not really a surprise.  And since we started treating his ear, he seems way better.  So I think his issue may be resolved *knock on wood*.

Jasper is a mystery to me.  She doesn't have allergies and Benedryl doesn't seem to help her.  Actually, it almost seems like she is hopped up on caffeine.  She'll be laying there and then you can see a muscle spasm or something, then she'll jump up, bite at the area, and pace around for awhile.  So it seems like something under the skin.  I really am at a loss.

Sorry you had a rough weekend :(

Plus, you are good with dogs.  Maybe you are like a dog whisperer and could've fixed my dogs for me.
