Re: Ultrasound at 9w6d?

  • I had one at 9w2d and it was internal. I have another set for 10w1d (Monday) and I hope I don't have to see the wand!

  • Depends on the office/tech IMO. You may want to call and ask.

DS was abdominal @ 8+ weeks and DD was internal at 8+ weeks

I had different tech both times (my office only has 2). Not sure what will be in store this time, lol.

  • the one I had at 8 w 5 d was abdominal...but they would have done an internal if they couldn't get a good shot

  • I had one at 10w2d that was supposed to be abdominal but they couldn't find anything and had to do internal.
  • If they asked you to come in with a full bladder then I would say abdominal.  They have you empty your bladder for an internal.
  • Depends on the office, I went for an ultrasound and the hospitals ultrasound office and got an abdominal one at 8 weeks 3 days and didn't even need a full blatter and the pics were amazingly clear
  • Depends on your doctor.

In my first pregnancy my ultrasounds were internal until about 12 weeks.

This pregnancy (all ultrasounds with high risk doctor) they have been abdominal since 7 weeks with no issues.

My RE's office only uses internal. The radiology place I went to with my son was external.
  • Mine on Wednesday will be at 9w2d and they told me they will try abdominal first, but move to internal if necessary.

  • My most recent was internal at 10w. It's not so bad unless you get a Dr/Tech with Frankenstein's monster reflexes, like my last one.

  • you really get better crisper images with internal. if your smaller and have a full bladder they may try abdominal but if it was me i would want transvag

  • I had one at one at 9w1day and it was external.
  • DS was 7wks and external.

    LO#2- 6wks 4days external, 9wks external.

  • I just had my second ultrasound Thurs and I was 9 weeks 4 days.  They tried doing the abdominal one, but couldn't see very well so they did it internally.  It didn't hurt at all.  We got to see the baby's arms moving around and the heartbeat which was really neat.

  • It depends on what they need to see.

Heartbeat, it can be done via abdomen. If there is any sort of measuring to be done of the baby, it should be done vaginally.

Not true.  It can be done through an external ultrasound.  If they are unable to get what they need then an internal is necessary.  I've only had external and they were able to get all the measurements needed.
