My SIL gave birth to their 3rd kid last night! Yay! And they waited to find out the sex, so finding out it was a boy was a nice surprise. But the nervous part is that he is in the NICU b/c he was so early (35.5 weeks) and small (5.5 lbs) and having trouble breathing. He's on oxygen. He also was not able to suck, so he wasn't able to nurse or take a bottle, so they were going to start him on a feeding tube. Oy. Poor thing.
I really feel for my SIL, who barely got to touch him before they had to take him from her, and who will likely be discharged tomorrow and have to visit him in the NICU while trying to care for her other two kids at the same time.
And all this is happening in NY and NJ, so I can't do anything to help other than pray for them and make many many phone calls and texts.
Since they haven't wanted to deal with anyone (like extended family), I haven't posted anything about his arrival on facebook. This is the only place I can say anything, so here I am!
Aaagh, I'm just really wishing I could be there for them! I am hating this distance. ![]()
Anyhow, thanks for ''listening"!

Re: So excited for my brother and SIL--and nervous
awww, I am sorry for them and for you. THis happy event is suppose to be so happy and now all this is getitng in the way of it.He's pretty big for being that early though!

Thanks, V!! I appreciate the prayers. Oh, but he doesn't have a name yet! They hadn't decided on one and the whole NICU thing threw them off, so they haven't told me if they've chosen one yet (haven't talked to them for a couple of hours). So far he is just Baby Boy S.
I am so sure that he will be fine--his color improved right away on O2, my Dad said. And like you said, he is a good size for such an early guy. And she went into labor naturally, with her water breaking and with a natural delivery within only a few hours and no time for the epidural she requested, so I figure the kid was just ready to come out! But thanks again for your prayers. They are welcome!
You know with two kids already at home, preterm labor is my biggest fear. I can't imagine just what they must be feeling. xoxo
Congrats on the new arrival! I'll be praying for the whole family - though it sounds like he's just ready to be here.
Thinking of you and knowing exactly how you feel about the distance
Thanks, all!! He is still on oxygen but they think that he will be ready to do a trial period without O2 tomorrow, and he has started rooting (for milk) and he may be allowed to take some milk by mouth tomorrow, too (he's on IV nutrition right now, my brother said).
And we have a name!! Alejandro Martin! I love it. I love that he will share the middle name with my son.
Thanks for the continued prayers.
