please tell me if I'll regret this

I want to get my hair chopped off.  It's in a ponytail 99% of the time now and it's just freaking hot.

But I'm also pregnant and have heard a lot of horror stories about haircuts and regrets during pregnancy.

If you think it's a good move, what are some good short cuts that are in now?

  • i say cut it if you want.  i just cut my to just below chin length and love it.  doesn't take very long to dry in the morning either!
  • i'll be the voice of dissent here and say not to do it. i wanted to do the same thing and my hairdresser advised me against. i was so glad she did mostly because i do wear my hair in a pony tail. when you have short hair (and i have, several times) you can't pull it back. depending on the type of hair you have, you have to do soemthing with it in order to look presentable. npt everyone has perfect hair like harmony.

  • My big no is you actually have to fix short hair every day(at least for me). Long hair can ALWAYS go in a pony.

Ditto this.  I cut my hair short when I was pregnant and hated it.  Short hair was not flattering for my swollen face. :(

I cut mine when pg with Lila...  I actually liked it.  Maybe take off a couple of inches now and see what you think...  I think you either need it long enough to pull back (or at least half back) or short enough that it doesn't matter.

That's what I'm afraid of, especially if I have BP issues this time around and my face looks like the moon.

The problem with the pony is that it's how my hair is all the time and it makes me feel/look so frumpy.  Maybe I need like bangs or something.

I wish I had perfect hair!

Really though Kat - if you aren't up to fixing it on a regular basis, I wouldn't do it.  I whacked mine off because I was wearing it up too much and I wanted a more polished look for work.

  • You've seen how short my hair is now... it was past my shoulders before I chopped it. I whacked it all because it was just too hot. Although I can just air dry mine and put a little stuff in it and get mixed results. Today it's good, sometimes I get horns....

But then I don't generally do long hair. My hair is so thick and wild it just turns into a mane.

  • My hair is in a pony tail 95% of the time.  I'm also tempted to get a short do, but I remember how much more time it takes to get ready in the morning time because my hair would stick up like crazy and be flat in some area.  It was a pain.  So it depends on how much time you want to take to style your hair every day.

This isn't the case for me.  I think it really depends on the cut you get.  With most cuts I've had, I could just wash it, put some volumizer on it and let it air dry.  (Let's not talk about my crappy current cut!) I'm not saying it looked fantastic, but it was as presentable as a ponytail.  And I always carry a hair clip with me to hold my bangs off my face if I need.

And when you do want to fix it, short hair is way quicker to style.

That said, I don't think I'd do anything drastic while pregnant.

  • Hooray for a new ticker! I was hoping to see one soon.

I vote get a cute cut but not necessarily one that can't be put in a ponytail. I look horrible with my hair up, so I wear it down every single day. I hate having to dry/straighten it all the time. I wish I had the luxury of wearing it up or down, but I can't handle the way I look with a ponytail. You on the other hand totally pull off the ponytail look, so I would keep that option.

  • For the "easy" factor, I think it really depends on the cut you get.

I'm not saying it looked fantastic, but it was as presentable as a ponytail is, and more comfortable.  And I always carry a hair clip with me to hold my bangs off my face if I need.

And when you do want to fix it, short hair is way quicker to dry and style.  It takes me about 5 minutes to dry and style my hair.

That said, I don't think I'd do anything drastic while pregnant.

  • I just got my haircut last week and had about 5 inches cut off. I told my hair dresser that I wanted something cool, easy to fix, but must go in a pony tail.

So I should have clarified that the pony tail should be longer than 3 inches. It is MUCH more work now. She cut lots of layers to keep it cool and light, but if I don't dry it with a rounded brush it looks like someone took hedge clippers to my hair.

Next time I will make sure to take pictures of what I want. At least I know it will grow back.

  • Short of getting it cut to about an inch short all over, no short "fixable" haircut will be cooler than a pony tail...Cute short hair requires time to style and still covers part of your neck.  I did the short haircut late last summer and regretted it before the end of the day!
