Re: snap and go or travel system?

  • they're not the same thing. A snap and go is only used with the infant seat. It's very light weight. Once baby is out of the infant seat it has no use (except for as a cart for homeless people because I have seen several used that way around here). The travel system is a big chunky stroller with a matching infant seat that can snap in. When baby is in the regular stroller you'll probably prefer something more all-terrain or more lightweight.

I vote either the snap and go or a stroller that can carry a car seat but is NOT a travel system. We have a Maclaren Techno XLR that reclines all the way back for an infant, goes up to 65 lbs and is compatible with the snugride and several other infant seats by attaching a bar thingy to it.

I managed without the snap n go, and I can count the number of times on one hand that I used the stroller with the infant seat. 99% of the time she was in the moby wrap as an infant. If I wanted to take her out in the stroller around the neighborhood I just reclined the seat and put her in it.

  • I loved the snap and go..but I never had a travel system.  I used the snap and go all the time up until about 2 months ago...it's really convenient to keep the baby in their car seat and not have to mess with getting them in and out so much, especially if they fall asleep in the car seat.

The SnapnGos all seemed so flimsy to me.  I would go with a stroller that has an infant seat adaptor on it (Baby Jogger, Bugaboo, UppaBaby Vista, Phil&Teds).  That way you have a quality stroller all the way through.  The only thing you need besides it is an umbrella.

As always, I highly recommend the Orbit.  It totally rocks and I am loving the new G2.

  • I think we're getting a SnG this time around even though we didn't use one with Marion.  There were only a few times it would have been nice to have had it with her, but I imagine with picking up and dropping Marion off at MDO now, it will be much more useful.

If you think the SnG is flimsy, the Maclauren one is a lot nicer. Folds differently and has a bigger basket underneath.

But really, if you're looking to simplify baby purchases, you can make it with just a quality, lightweight stroller that adapts to carry a car seat.  We have the P&T sport and while it's not lightweight (it's a jogger) it's been awesome and is still my favorite piece of baby equipment.

If you do want an SnG type frame, that's something that I wouldn't hesitate to buy used.

  • I love the Chicco Trevi stroller. It is not as big as a full-size travel system stroller, but does accommodate the Chicco infant seat. It also folds like an umbrella stroller (long and skinny) rather than like a TS stroller (flat and huge). It is still our everyday stroller, we just have the Trevi and a Jeep jogger. Someone passed a Baby Trend SNG on to me and I hated it.

  • I test drove some travel systems and decided no way on earth. I just did not like them. I thought they were bulky and very plasticy. I ended up with the Maclaren easy traveller (their SnG) and loved it. I was always on the go with T when he was a baby and it was a life saver. If he fell asleep in the car, it was so easy to juts plop his infant seat in to it. Its light and folds way more compactly than the other SnGs on the market. I loved it for both kids.

  • I have both and have the Graco metrolite travel system.  The stroller is pretty light to me.  I like the snap and go because it's not as bulky.  However, I like the travel system because you can use the canopy of the stroller and the infant carrier at the same time so that the baby is follow cover from sun or wind.  It was great in March when we went strawberry picking and it was so windy outside.  We just covered her up pushed the travel system while picking strawberries.  I would think it's a great thing to have during the fall and winter time.

  • snap and go!!

with the travel system you're buying a set: infant seat and stroller. with the snap and go you just get the infant seat and the snap and go seperately. then you put your infant seat into it.

the travel system works on the same principal, but the idea is you can eventually use the stroller part as well. its super heavy and bulky. it can also limit your selection of seats.

we did the infant seat and snap and go. worked perfectly, i could lift it no problem, and it didn't take up my whole trunk. plus, its cheaper.

This is one of the things I like about my travel system (chicco). I can totally cover him up when out to eat or shopping. I also have not found it too heavy or bulky to lift. Sure the SnG would be easier but the TS has not been unbearable.

Same here.  We have the Metrolite and have really been happy with it.  It is one of the lightest TS on the market (or it was 3 years ago) we are now using it again with DD. When we've been out and about and it was cold or windy or too sunny the canopy worked well for us.  It's very easy to fold up and I don't find it too heavy at all.

Love our Chicco TS too, but I definitely understand why people wouldn't like them.  We didn't need an all-terrain stroller, and I needed a stroller with tray.  The Chicco is very easy to open and close and isn't too heavy for me.

  • I am just getting the Bob Revoltion jogging stroller with the car seat adapter. I might get an umbrella stroller too. I am a runner, so the Bob is essential for me.
