Uppa baby VRs. Phil and Ted?

I have a toddler and am due in Dec. Would you recommend an Uppa Baby Vista w/ rumble seat, or a Phil and Teds? Why? Is there a specific Phil and Ted's that you prefer?

Re: Uppa baby VRs. Phil and Ted?

  • I have the Uppa.  I'm 19 weeks pregnant and have an 18 month old son.  I thought when I bought the Uppa I'd use the Rumble Seat, but now that I'm actually pregnant, I can't picture my son riding in it.  With the Rumble Seat your toddler has to face forward if you have a baby in the carseat with adaptor (you can't use the bassinet with the Rumble Seat), and I don't think he would like sitting so low and facing me - he likes to face out and see people.  I'm thinking of selling it and getting a Baby Jogger City Select.  I don't really like any other doubles.  I don't love the lower seats on Phil and Teds.

  • I had these as my top two.  I went with the Phil & Ted's Vibe.  Cons I found with the Uppa Baby were with the Rumble Seat.  It seemed way too close to the other seat and I figured my 21 month old would hate facing me.  Haven't used our Vibe yet, but will this weekend.
  • I have the Phil and Ted Sport and am expecting #2 in a few weeks. I think P&T is good for the first year or so (of having 2 kids). The older kid can sit up and look out as he/she normally would. The younger one lays underneath at first and then sits low--the low seat doesn't have any view--except for the seat in front of it. The good thing is it is light and not wide so it's pretty easy to move around (from what I have seen from friends). My neighbor used it until her 2nd one turned 2 and then got a side by side so the kids could both see everything in front of them and talk to each other. So, I think it is good for a toddler and a baby under 1/1.5 or so and then I am not so sure....but the good thing is it has good resell value so you could sell it to get a side by side later.

I know people love their Bumbleride Indies and Baby jogger City Minis for side by side strollers.

  • I wouldn't buy the Uppa with the intention of it being a double-stroller. I'd look into the P+T and the Baby Jogger City model that converts (can't remember which one that is at the moment).

  • We have an uppa and love it but probably won't have need for the rumble seat since my DD will be almost 4 when the baby arrives. We did get the piggyback though.  I have to agree with everything people have said about the Rumble Seat, it faces the parent and it doesn't have a very high weight limit.  That said, I think it's a good option for a toddler that is in and out of the stroller. Wants to walk sometimes and then a break in the stroller for a snack, etc.   I think if you're looking for a true double for a older sibling that will ride the majority of the time, you might be happier with a side by side or a BJ City Select for that purpose.   We didn't look too hard at the Phil and Ted's, b/c I didn't like how low the second seat was.  You have to try them out and see what you are comfortable with.
  • The only thing I dont like about the Uppa is the kids have to face you.  We have a phil and teds sport and love it.  I use it as a double when im out with friends so we only have to take one stroller and my dd loves the bottom seat.  For the first few mos I will use the infant car seat and put her down there unless the baby is awake then she will sit on top and the baby laying below.
