How long is your commute?

I'm just curious what other people have for commutes.  I started a full time job on Tuesday.  When I was offered the job DH and I talked and we agreed to move, but have to give our landlords 60 days notice so we agreed that I would just suck it up and deal with the commute and move August 1st.  It turns out the commute there isn't bad (65 minutes) because I'm just ahead of the traffic, but the commute home is taking over 2 hours.  At this point we're looking at a place on Sunday that is available July 1 and if we like it and get it we're just going to lose the last months rent and move (I have money from the sale of my grandmother's house that we can use for 1st/last/security).  I love the job - its in my field and fast paced and intersting, but I can't stand the 2 hours that it takes to get home since by the time I get home I get about 20 minutes with DS before we have to start his bedtime routine.  The other thing is that I put $85 worth of gas in my car since Monday night for the commute which is going to get very expensive.

TIA!

  • 45 minutes each way, if I have to drop dd off 60 minutes each way.  DH drives about 35 minutes each way when he drops dd off!

  • I would say that's totally worth it to take the new place on July 1 - that is priceless to not have that 2 hour commute and gain back that time with your DS.  No way would I spend 2 hours coming home - that's too much.  My commute is about 50 min each way, which includes the daycare drop off.
  • Right now I commute about 20 min to get to daycare plus 10 more min to get to my job, so short compared to yours.  It's pretty much the same time in the afternoon because I don't hit bad traffic.

  • On the days I have to go into the office, it is about 45 min each way. This includes meeting my mom to drop off DD.

  • 35 minutes each way...all highway driving which is fantastic.

  • 90 minutes each way :(  My DH and I both knew that our commutes would double when we moved to our new house, but we figured that being closer to family was worth it.  I truly cherish my time in the morning with my DD, but it's sad in the evenings when I only see her for 30 minutes before she is going to bed.

  • 20 minutes in the AM, 30-45 in the PM. The days I have to take L to daycare are a little longer, but our DCP is only 5 min from our house. DH has the long commute in our house - his is 45 min in the AM and anywhere from 45-90 min in the PM, not including the days he takes L to his mom's. That adds anywhere from 15-45 extra minutes so his mom usually meets him at his work in the morning to pick L up since traffic can be unpredictable.

30min to work, about an hour to get home (stupid traffic)

  • Less than 10 minutes if no traffic. Up to 25 if traffic is bad.

  • My commute is 20 minutes on a good day, but some days when traffic is awful it can take me an hour to get home.

  • 40 minutes each way, which includes drop off/pick up at daycare (and I spent at least 10 minutes in the building).  No real traffic to speak of, since I take a local (50mph) route. It's cake compared to when I would work in NYC and travel from NJ, haha!

  • That is a long commute. I'm about 30 miles away. Including daycare drop off and pick up (which takes about 10 minutes), it's 45 minutes in the mornings, 55-75 minutes in the evenings, depending on if I'm lucky with traffic or not.

  • At least you know your commute is temp and you will move either July 1 or Aug 1 so there is a end date.  My commute is very easy - I work from 2x a week so to daycare is 5 mins each way.  When I go to the office it takes about 10-20 in the morning and 15-30 on the way home (that is to daycare not home).  Even if there is an accident the highway is backed up, I have 1 back road that I can typically get to and still not have a super long commute.  My DH though has a 45 min commute each way on an average day.  The last snow storm we had, it took him 3 hours to get home!
