Affordable infant care inside the loop?

Hi all,

I am scheduled to have my son induced on June 14th, and for the longest time I didn't search for childcare because my husband was unemployed and had been for more than a year! I anticipated that he'd be home with the LO. Then, miraculously, a decent opportunity came his way and now we're scrambling to find the best option for the baby once I return to work in 8-10 weeks.

I've looked into a few places, but I don't really have a point of reference for these prices. They seem REALLY expensive ($950 - $1250 per month).

What type of prices are/were you paying for infant care? Anyone know of any good alternative options to a daycare facility? We live in River Oaks and I work in the Galleria area. Can I borrow someone's grandma!?!? *Smile*

Thanks for any feedback you have.

  • Those prices sound reasonable inside the loop.  My co-worker used to have her baby at Avalon Academy, I think they were around $170/week? (a few years ago), so maybe you can try them?

  • I agree with Carebear, those prices are pretty standard ITL. My son goes to a school in West U and we pay around $1K per month for him and that does not include lunch, snack or daipers.

  • Keep in mind that infant care is often more expensive than toddler care b/c of smaller class sizes.

you might want to check out Gonzales Daycare on Rutland in the Heights. it's one of the cheaper schools, definitely no frills, but a lot of Heights moms have been happy with it. the staff has very little turnover, which is always a good sign.

  • Hi thanks for this tip. So funny, I just visited Avalon this morning and they are, indeed, a little more affordable than most although they are going up slightly on their prices. Do you happen to know if your co-worker was happy with them? As much as I can, I like to get recommendations from other happy customers on this one. Thanks again!
