3rd Trimester

Do you still...

Carry groceries into the house by yourself? I went full week grocery shopping today and didn't want to take 10 trips upstairs in 90 degree weather to bring the groceries in, so i did two big trips. Now it feels like i stretched something in my stomach/abdomen. I'm hoping i just strained a muscle rather than hurting something important to the baby. I think i learned my lesson- no more over doing it!

* Is there a weight limit that you can carry while pregnant?

Re: Do you still...

  • Sounds like you pulled your muscles and gave yourself some RLP. Just take it easy and the pain should go away soon. Oh and yeah I still carry in everything except for the cases of water.

  • I understand the whole not wanting to make 10 trips in 90+ degree weather...but I think it's best to not over do it either.  I make my DH carry the heavy stuff (like the milk, juice...etc) and I carry the lighter stuff (like bread and lettuce).  Of course DH is not always there, so I end up make lots of trips.  Not fun...
  • I carry mine in because I'm bada$$. I doubt you did any major damage. Just take more trips next time :)

  • My peri said 25lbs but I think that is so I'd take it easier. Luckily DD is only 23 lbs and growing slowly. I couldn't not pick her up.
  • About a month ago I picked up something kind of heavy and I got a really bad pain in my abdomen. It really scared me. I don't pick anything up heavy at all. As for groceries, I only carry the light stuff.

  • Yup, I just carried them all in yesterday.
  • I don't have a choice but to carry everything in myself. I live on the 3rd floor and I have a 3 year old, so multiple trips really can't happen. I just carry everything in, huff and puff for a while, then get some water and sit and rest. I have been doing the grocery workout my entire pregnancy and everything is fine. I think you will be okay, just put your feet up and rest for a little bit.
  • Totally make the hubby carry in the groceries cause the kitchen is on the second floor after a huge flight of stairs. I've always come to LOVE Wegman's who offer carry out assistance and there's nice young guys who load my car for me.
  • DH and I go grocery shopping together and I only carry the small bags up the driveway.  I hate grocery shopping.

I think the weight limit once you are third tri is 20 lbs but this is off the top of my head...

  • yuk we just did grocery shopping yesterday and we're in a 3rd floor condo with lots of stairs.

My DH carried as much as he possibly could until he couldn't feel his arms anymore and I carried as much as I could too.  We HATE doing more than one trip. I just went really really slowly and had to take breaks.  I was fine it just SUCKS.

  • I still carry everything too .. although I do find myself taking more trips with lighter loads.  I gauge the weight limit by my Goddaughter - she's 15 months and about 25 pounds .. so anything under her I feel okay lifting! (I figure pregnant moms lift their toddlers so why can't I?)
  • I believe the weight limit also depends on how your preg. is going.  Someone on bedrest can't lift much of anything...whereas someone who has a healthy preg. should be able to lift (but course not too heavy).  My 4yr old is about 37lbs and I can't carry him long, but I do still carry him a little.

  • Of course! I even carried in a watermelon a few days ago. I'm pregnant, not disabled.
  • I do! I know it's hard to tell by the picture in my siggy, but DS is right around 35lbs now and I still carry him short distances. I figured if I can carry him I'm capable of carrying the groceries from the car to the house! I'm not sure if there's a weight limit though...I judge everything by how much it weighs compared to Oliver =)

I did the same thing on the weekend and then again yesterday.  I thought I must have looked funny putting it in the trunk.

  • We live in a townhouse, so I know the pain of groceries with stairs. DH and I try to go together now, or at least make sure he's home when I'm done so we can tag team it. If I have to do it myself, I make sure I get any frozen or perishables upstairs and leave heavy and other items for him. My dr limited me to 30lbs so I technically could do it all, but I also slipped on the stairs at 20wks and am a bit paranoid about them.

  • I still carry groceries, take out trash, even move furniture.  I'm pretty much of the opinion that I can do everything I did before I was pregnant except drink wine.  :)

  • I still carry groceries in but I take multiple trips. Lately I make sure DH is BIL is here to help with the bigger/heavier items since it kills my back.
  • I do if I go grocery shopping alone... if we both go then df usually carries in the heavy stuff & I stick to the light. I don't pick up big packages of bottled water or anything.
  • I try to avoid carrying the heavy stuff and make DH do it, but if he isn't home I just make a million trips.

When I'm at the store I bag strategically and make sure that all perishable items go in the same few bags. Then I take them up first and wait on the rest of the stuff that wont melt or be harmed by the heat.

  • Ya I still do everything pretty normally... I couldn't imagine saying no to my nephews or niece if they wanted to be hugged/carried, so I figure if I can do that all the time my body can take the regular lifting of everyday tasks:)

  • You should get one of those carts at Bed, Bath & Beyond, that's what I use, and it's wonderful!
