Baby prep classes

I'm looking into signing up for baby prep classes from Fairview Southdale.

This will be our first baby, so right now, I look at the list and think, "I need to take all of them!"

But I was curious if anyone had suggestions on what to actually take! I don't want to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on these classes, if I can take a few and it be sufficient.

Any advice would be appreciated!!!

THANKS!

Re: Baby prep classes

  • I took the Birth and Parenting Extended class. It's a 7 week class that covers the labor/delivery, breastfeeding and postpartum. It was a great class and I learned a lot. Plus, the fee was reimbursed through my flex spending account.

After baby is born, I am planning on taking the mom and baby class.

  • Would you suggest just taking the Birth & Parenting Extended rather than just a breastfeeding class?

  • we did the Birth & parenting preparation express & Mommy & me Class.

I am so glad we did the express it is only one weekend (Sat & Sun) after the class I felt I was ready to have this baby. If you like longer day classes then the express is for you but if you like to have short classes then I would do the non- express one.

Mommy & Me class is a MUST I was so glad I did it. Aiden met his best bud Liam (see the photos from my review)  in that class. It was so nice to meet with other moms on a weekend basis. Plus it got you out of the house :)

Oh at because our classes were not at southdale we did do a OB tour that was very nice to know what & where to go.

The Breastfeeding will go into more detail about BF. In our class they only touched on BF but did allow us to ask questions after about it.

In the class I took (at Riverside hospital), I was told that the evening class that we devoted to BF was the exact same class as the separate class. Does that make sense? It's taught by a lactation consultant, too, which is nice to have that expertise.
