Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Lost 14lbs in 20 days!

Just wanted to rave about Nutrisystem - and thank the nestie that posted about the deal at Costco.

Started 5/15 and as of this morning I am down 14lbs! Some of the food is disgusting, but some is down right delicious. I've changed my order for next month quite a bit so I'm looking forward to all fairly yummy meals. You add in tons of fruits and veggies, yogurt and protein so I have not even been hungry. I've learned so much about appropriate portions.

Thanks for letting me AW, I'm so excited! I feel great, more energy, better attitude, etc.

Re: Lost 14lbs in 20 days!

  • I did nutrisystem right after dd and lost 30lbs (had already lost the baby weight but needed to lose more). The food was not half bad and it really changed my eating habits. I liked having my food planned for me then figuring out what was worth how many points and blah blah blah. It definitely works and my weight stayed off until I got pg again.

Good job and keep up the good work!

  • I've thought of trying to look into doing this, but I wasn't sure about the cost - about what does it cost to do?
  • Thanks for the encouragement brideatbeach, way to go on the 30lbs!

LilyB I got 35 days (5 weeks) worth of food for $244 thru Costco.

And that incluses breakfast, lunch, and dinner?  That doesn't seem like a bad price at all!

  • It includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. But you do have to add in fruits, veggies and dairy to get all your nutrition needs. Like for breakfast, I can have the Nutrisystem bfast, plus a fruit and a fat free yogurt. Lunch unlimited salad plus NS entree, snack is usually fruit, then dinner I add veggies too.

It's not a bad price at all. With all the eating out I used to do, it's probably no more expensive than before.

Wow I'll really have to look into that.  I have a Costco by me, but I've never been there.  Congrats on your weight loss!

  • oooooooh congrats!  thanks for sharing.  i plan to start nutrisystem after this baby and can't wait to try it!  out of curiosity - how much weight do you want to lose?  just wanting to get an idea of how fast it could come off.  i'd be stoked to lose what you did so fast!
  • I'm wanting to lose 50lbs, to get back to my wedding weight. I'm sure it's coming off so quickly b/c I have a lot to lose, but man is it motivating to see the numbers fall that like!
  • I have several worries about this diet plan:

    1. Fast weight loss can be dangerous, and can actually cause weight to come back quicker in the longrun. Ideally you should be losing 1-2lbs per week when trying to lose weight.

    2. Is this coupled with an exercise program? Or is it strictly dieting?

    3. Is this plan something you will continue your entire life, does it give you the tools to learn how to eat the right foods for the rest of your life to avoid excessive weight gain? I guess my concern is that people start this program, and once it's over and they've lost the weight they go back to their old habits?

I see things like this come and go and am always intrigued and I admit, it sounds tempting with so many people saying they've lost weight. I've found that good old fashion dieting (1,200 calories a day) and exercise help the weight come off slowly, but safely.

  • I am exercising, too. Elliptical every other night for 20 minutes.

I certainly won't order Nutrisystem food for the rest of my life. But yes, after 3 weeks I actually have cravings for vegetables, which I have never in my life. Mostly it's teaching me portion control. There have been nights in the past 2 weeks where we are eating out or at someone's house, and I have learned what to order. Those nights I opted for the grilled chicken, veggies and pass on the dessert and eat fruit when I get home instead.

The online journal tracks your food for you, and each day my calories end up being around 1200-1350/ day.

I am losing so fast b/c I went from eating probably 2500 calories a day to 1200. It's not a gimick or dangerous where I am taking a diet pill, I am eating actual food in small portions - something I can continue after NS.

I have not had success trying to do this on my own, and having the food portioned out for me has helped me tremendously.

I understand your worry about quick fix dieting - but eating a small muffin high in protein in the morning, with a banana and yogurt, well that's not a gimmick that is healthy eating in appropriate portions.

  • I am reading all this again and I do agree 14lbs in 20 days is alot. The most I lost in one week was 6lbs and that was the very first week and I am assuming half that was water weight. For the next two months I lost about 2 to 3lbs a week and then I lost 3 on my own doing it myself and then I just hit a plateau but was happy at my weight. I also worked out 3 to 4 times a week doing cardio and weights.

How is nutrisystem any different than weight watchers or jenny craig? They all teach you how to eat and I think some of us just forget how to do that and it is not easy either.
