The way my clinic works (I have Kaiser, so I only had the choice of going to a Kaiser clinic for my coverage to work) there is a group of MD's and MW's and I can see any of them throughout my pregnancy and/or choose to see the same one every time. I went with a MW - really like her and have stuck with her. I have the choice between two hospitals for my deliver and they way they are structured is that there are always at least 2 MD's on 24 hour rotations and one MW that works from like 8-5pm. When I go in to deliver - I just get whomever is there! My MW said there is pretty much only a 1% chance she would be the one to deliver me. It really sucks knowing that it will be a stranger. Anyone else in the same boat?
Re: Anyone 99% sure they are NOT being delivered by their doc?
Same here. I don't really care though. Kaiser files are electronic so whom ever is working L&D will have my history and information. I have full confidence in the doctors and nurses.
My original OB, 100% sure he won't.
I am hoping to hold on long enough to be delivered by my favorite high-risk resident with the fellow or attending I like. I am just praying this one fellow is NOT on call when I am ready to deliver. I might even delay just so it isn't her!
The practice I go to has 4 OBs and 1 midwife. I was hoping to see all 4 doctors during my pregnancy, but I've been having some BP issues so my doctor kept me to herself.
From what I understand, if I have the baby during the day ("normal" business hours, M-F), my OB will be the one who delivers. If the baby comes at night or on the weekend, it'll be whichever doctor is on call.
Between today and a week after my due date, my OB is on call 5 out of the 16 days, so I'd guess my odds of having her deliver are pretty low. :-(
A lot (if not most) of OBGYN offices have several docs that work in the practice. In that case, you could get any one of the doc's, depending on who is on call when you go into labor. It's just part of the whole process. My doc office has 6 doctors who deliver babies and the patients are encouraged to meet all of them at least once during their prenatal care. I have only met 4 of the 6, but I figure if I happen to get one of the others, that's what will happen. You have to remmeber, there is no telling when you will go into labor and it's really not feasible, nor fair to the doctor, to be on call 24/7 to delivery every woman that plans on delivering there. It sucks, and I would prefer my OBGYN doc to be the one who deliveres, but I know it's not possible to guarantee that. There is website that you can go to and look up reviews for doctors and their education.experience background, etc. It may help to ease any fears or anxieties you may have about the other docs there.
Its www.vitals.com
My doctor's office is a practice so any of the docs will be on call. I've met a few of them but the odds are the doctor that I usually go to will not be the one delivering my baby. I'm cool w/it
I go to a practice with 3 OB's and a midwife, and whoever is on call delivers. For this reason, they have you see each of them for prenatal visits so you at very least have a name and a face.
This doesn't bother me in the slightest, since it is the L&D nurses who really help you through the whole process. Unless you have a private midwife (or deliver at home or in a birthing center), your doctor or midwife won't show up until you are fully dilated and ready to push if everything is going well.
