So last time I never made it to the whole "talk to the billing department" stage of my pg.
I was charged some sort of co-pay for all the appointments I went to last time and for the first one this time.
I knew that was wrong, because we picked this insurance mainly for the fact that it has 100% maternity coverage. But at the time I was broken and didn't care enough.
This time, we go to the billing department on Tuesday, shock of all shocks, "everything's covered!"
So um, shouldn't you refund every damn dime you charged me last time as well as what you charged me for the first appointment this time?? Total, we aren't talking a fortune or anything here, but they never should have charged me anything.
Re: Petty $ vent
You should check your insurance explanation of benefits for those visits from before. If your insurance said you had nothing to pay, and you did pay, then the Dr has to refund your money.
But unfortunately, I've seen all too often that 'maternity coverage' doesn't include miscarriages, and once you've lost the baby you have to pay like it was a normal sickness. Hope that's not the case for you and you get some money back - but I bet that's what's happened.
I don't think so since the u/s place never charged me a dime and the hospital refunded every penny I paid them.
Plus, the Dr. this time charged me for my first pregnancy appointment! But not for the 2nd one...they sent us to billing to determine our liability first.
Definitely check those EOBs then. I'd be fighting to get my money back if I wasn't supposed to owe anything.
FWIW, I always advise clients that if you are covered by insurance and you're seeing a contracted provider (in your network, I mean), you shouldn't be paying anything up front. The contract your dr has with the insurance company is that the doctor has to send the bill to insurance first to be processed before the dr can charge you ANYTHING. And then the dr can only charge you what's shown on the EOB.
I always make sure my doctor's bill and the insurance EOB both say I owe the same amount before I pay anything.
hmmmmmm...somethings obviously not right! We have 100% maternity coverage, but we had to pay the copay for our very 1st office visit and then nothing after that.
You know what is funny (not really funny but lack for better word) I only paid the copay for my 1st visit with PG#2....then miscarried and got PG again and they still treated it like the same pregnancy and I didnt have to pay a copay this time. Obviously they made the mistake so I didn't bring it to their attn.
