I'm searching for a car seat/stroller combo that is safe but not too bulky or heavy. I would prefer to get something reasonably priced as well. Please let me know if you have any suggestions!!
what I would recommend is getting a car seat that you really like & a "click & go" stroller now & once baby is here & you can look for a better stroller. Plus by waiting you will know what you Like/dislike & what kind of a stroller user are you.
I We had the Graco 32 that was Great as Mr.A was able to be in it for a full year (most other car seats he would had out grown by the time he was 6 months)
I have the Bertini travel system from Babies R Us and love it- but it is getting discontinued. Maybe you can still find one that carries it. It can hold babies 4-35 lbs and is really sturdy. I also was just reading this review and it states that it is one of the few carseats where you don't have to put the handle down when driving. I didn't realize this so will double check my manual but if this is the case this is HUGE. It's such a pain to put the handle down everytime. I did lots of research before buying and found lots of good reviews for the system.
We have the Chicco KeyFit30 Travel system. I loved the car seat, but only like the stroller. I would recommend thinking about where you will be using your stroller the most and going with a stroller (with a carseat converter) and whatever carseat you like. If i could do it all over again I would get a Bob stroller.
I am a mom-to-be so I haven't used my car seat/stroller combo yet, but I am looking forward to it. For the stroller, I went with the Peg Perego Uno stroller. Usually, these are about $400, but they have a section on their website where you can buy the older models (aka last year's colors) for a big discount. The stroller ended up being $199. Some of the features I like about it is that it can lay flat, good sun visor/shield thing, and you can move the handle so that the baby can either face you or away from you (I thought this was a good option especially when baby is really young).
For the car seat, I will be using the chicco keyfit 30. It isn't made to be a travel system with the peg perego, but a lot of moms use it as a travel system.

I second the BabyTrend travel systems. I LOVED ours, and we're using it again for this baby. The stroller has been great...pretty light weight, very easy to collapse (one handed...great when holding baby and bags and who knows what else), fits comfortably in my not so big trunk. DD was a BIG baby and still fit in the infant carrier until about 7 months...I switched her to a convertible at that point because she was just getting too heaving to carry in her seat.
We are using the infant carrier again, but will be purchasing a BabyTrend double stroller.

I ditto the car seat and snap n go recommendation. Then you can really figure out what you want/like/need in a stroller.
I don't know anyone who hasn't gotten some kind of other stroller if they went with the travel system. They're just so big and bulky.
