no appetite...how did you work through this?

On top of still not being able to sleep(even with help of meds) I'm not not hungry AT ALL.

I either still feel nauseous and can't stomach the thought of eating or I just everything looks so gross to me.

I know it's something I need to do(obviously) but any words of advice?

I'm 15 weeks now....

  • I just ate small amounts of what DID appeal to me, even if it wasn't the best choice.  I figured keeping it down was better than nothing at all. lol

This is kinda what I'm doing. Frozen Chimichanga? really?  I'm sure that's a great choice. lol

I'll say I might talk DH into panera tonight. I've REALLY been wanting their caesar salad.

He *sat* me down this morning to have a talk about eating more.  Maybe I can use this to my advantage ;-)

Mine was always Whataburger w/cheese n fries.  :)  Since we have catered lunches at work, I had to completely avoid the breakrooms on some days because the smell of all the food together would do me in. lol  But Whataburger always made me feel so much better! LOL

  • with both of my kids i was very nauseous for the first several months then it went away.  but while that was going on, i ate A LOT of grits with butter, pretzels without salt and boylan's ginger ale.  truely the best ginger ale out there!

good luck, it will pass and then you'll be able to eat so much!

  • Ask you dr about phenagrin? I am not sure I spelled that right. I never had to take it, but my friends who had nasuea really bad swore by the prescirption their docs gave them.

Also, my dr recommended eat what you can. So if you are sick, but all you can eat is Lucky Charms for every meal, then eat it. It is better than getting no nutrients at all.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon :)

  • Eat what you can when you can.  This part will pass and you can worry about eating better when you can handle it.

Peppermints and lemondrops helped me with the queasiness.

  • I was very nauseous my first trimester and I had saltine crackers and ginger ale every morning. I would let that settle and then eat something after a couple of hours. That seemed to help the most, especially the ginger ale. I couldn't eat any meat except for Chick-fi-A, so I had that almost every day! I think that's why Rena is addicted to it now. ;)

  • if anything sounds good eat it, but don't force yourself.  Take your prenatals and drink a lot of fluids and you'll be ok.  I lost a few lbs during my first trimester this time due to nausea.  No worries...I gained them back and then some. Stick out tongue

Eat what you can.  LOL at frozen chimichanga.  During my nauseous phase, it was pizza, BLTs and Whataburger chicken strip combos.  I've only gained 15 lbs at 28 weeks so don't worry about it.  Eat what you can now and when you are feeling better then you can concentrate on more balanced meals, exercise, whatever makes you feel like you're doing best for the baby.

  • i had a major aversion to meats, with the exception of chicken strips (aka bw3's and chick fil a), and had times when i had to force myself to eat.

the easiest thing was to eat whatever i felt like eating, whenever i wanted it. if that meant a snickers bar and string cheese, then so be it.

  • I was pretty sure I was dying up until 20 weeks.  I hardly ate and brushing my teeth would make me throw up.  I would have a few bites of toast in the morning, snack on some prezels through out the morning and then have a couple of fries for lunch.  For dinner I would have some saltines and try to stomach whatever H made.  After 20 weeks, I could eat anything.
  • Not quite there yet, but I have heard a lot of others think watermelon is good during that phase. Also, have you thought about trying the seasick bracelets?

  • exactly what Kris said ... eat what you can, when you can.  It really won't last for 40 weeks, even though it might seem that way.
  • I never had that problem...but man, I could have eaten a Caeser salad every day.  Easily.
  • Food still sucks for me.  I dont want to eat, much less care what I eat.  Like everyone said, eat what you think you can stomach.  And only eat a small portion.  6 meals over the course of the day is better than anything.  Keep your fluids up and you are fine.  Until the doctor starts worrying, I wouldn't worry.

I eat whatever sounds good (and I am 34+ wks!).  Lately it has been cottage cheese and apple sauce.  Yes, it sounds SUPER gross, but it is good for me.  String cheese, and plain grilled chicken is good.  I dont go to far out my comfort zone.  And everything is bland bland bland! My husband and kiddos hate it, because cooking right now for me is tasteless...no spices, no salt, no pepper, nothing.

  • I ate a lot of dry cereal (plain Cheerios, Kix) and drank Ginger Ale.

Grrrr, stupid nest. Sorry for the multiple posts.

The smell and even just the thought of mint made me gag. I couldn't chew gum or peppermints the whole time. I bought some kid's bubblegum toothpaste so I could brush my teeth.

I ate a TON of Triscuits when I was pregnant. It was the only thing that sounded good and would stay down.

  • I agree with everyone that has already posted. Also keep in mind if you are worried about losing too much weight from lack of appetite and morning sickness that it usually takes alot for the doctor to get really concerned about weight loss. I dropped 20+ lbs with both kids the first 6 months of my pregnancies.
