3rd Trimester

When are you going on maternity leave?

I was hoping to not go on maternity leave till McKenna gets here. I work as a banker, and sit at a desk almost all day, so It is not a physically demanding job.

What is everyone else doing?, and is your job physically demanding?

Re: When are you going on maternity leave?

  • It's not physically demanding but sitting down all day get's my back and everything else super sore. I'm due September 1st. I'm leaving August 1st.

  • I am starting my leave when this baby actually arrives and not a moment sooner!  I travel alot but do not have any appointments for the next two weeks...so I am just doing work from the office!
  • i start mine next week!!! not so much because i have a physically demanding job (sedentary) but because of our disability policy...they have a 14 day elimination period so if you go out 2 wks early it is beneficial.

  • My job isn't physically demanding, but my last day is July 2nd. About 2 weeks before Owen's arrival.

  • This is my 3rd, and i've said with the last two that i'd work until i was due, but i never make it closer than 38 weeks, so this time i scheduled maternity leave to start two weeks before i'm due.  I work in an office that is not physically demanding, but you get to a point where your mind cant focus on anything except getting labor going!!
  • Same here.  I'll be working until LO comes.

  • I am planning to work until my due date. My job is not at all physically demanding, and summers here are very mild so I don't plan on being too uncomfortable.
  • My last day is tomorrow.  I will be 39 weeks 3 days.

  • I am a teacher, but my job usually involves sitting at a desk all day with my laptop.  I was planning on staying as long as possible, but was told I'm not allowed to work on or past my due date.  So my last day is officially June 10.  I feel pretty crappy with all the back/rib pain, so I don't mind taking leave starting on my EDD.
  • I'm working as long as I possibly can! I don't have a physically demanding job, so it's no biggie. I'd either be sitting on my a$$ at work or at home!
  • it seemed to me like everytime someone asks this question, most people say they are working until the end.. I am going to stop working one month before my EDD and I can't wait! I have one more month to go before leaving work and I don't know how I will get through this month. I sit at a desk all day and by the end of the day my back is killing me, my feet are swollen, the heat is unbearable, and I just want to be home instantly instead of having to commute for an hour. I'm so glad I listed to my husband and mom who said take the last month off.

  • My job is not physically demanding but I am done as of July 1st (2 weeks before EDD). We are allowed up to 4 weeks beforehand that we cannot use after LO comes so I just decided to take 2 of them (I work in sales and want to get my commission for June Smile).

I admire how anyone can work all the way until they give birth. I am still 6 weeks away and am starting to get uncomfortable. I can't imagine what this will be like 4 weeks from now when I am still here.

  • I had to give a date at my job so I did june 6th. Bradley makes the final decision.

  • My short term disability starts 1 week before due date, so I?ll be leaving then. I used to want to work up until the last possible minute, but as I?m getting closer I?m happy to leave a bit early? I?m getting more and more uncomfortable and in more and more pain each day.

My job is 85% sitting and not physically demanding at all, BUT it?s extremely mentally demanding and fast paced which is exhausting

  • I think I'll try to go until my due date, July 11th.  If I'm feeling just miserable I'll take the week before off.  My job is not physically demanding. I sit at a desk all day, however, that in itself can be pretty painful.
  • I am starting leave when I go into labor. My job isn't that physically hard but just running around right now is a challenge.

I am going to wait until the baby is here because my job is not physically demanding (the hours are really flexible & my boss is super understanding). I do have several days of vacation left to use up, so I am going to work 4-days weeks until July 10 (my EDD), which would be nice.

  • I am planning on working up until my due date so I can be out as long as possible once he comes!

My job is not physically demanding (desk job) but, I want time to finalize things at the house before she comes.

My Peri is writing me out at 36 weeks so July 30 is my last day.  I have an induction scheduled around 38 weeks meaning I will have 2 weeks to myself before she gets here.

  • I'm a paralegal for a district attorney so my job is not physically demanding. I do plan to stay working until I go into labor or the dr tells me otherwise. I only get 6 weeks maternity leave and I want to spend all of that with my lil man.

  • Nope, I sit in my office all day long... My last day is Friday the 18th and I am being induced on Monday the 21st (if he does not come before then)
  • As of right now, I plan on working up until I deliver or hit my due date.  I have a desk job, and its not usually a high stress environment.  With DS#1, I worked 2 days past my due date and was so glad I took the few extra days to just rest, relax and prepare for the big change that was about to happen.

  • i'm a personal banker as well and hopefully will be sitting behind that desk until Kennedy makes her grand appearance...
  • I started my leave at 37 weeks.  I teach, and as much as I tried to stay off my feet, it just isn't possible with 36 4th and 5th graders!  I don't know how my old teachers taught from their desk, I never see mine!   My feet and ankles were swelling and were very uncomfortable, so I took more time off than I originally planned on.  Overall, I'm taking 24 days off with summer vacation coming soon:)
  • I'm planning to work until the baby comes or until my due date, whichever comes first. I may work past my due date if I'm still pregnant and feel good.

I'm going to try to hang on until the bitter end. I'd rather save my time for after the baby is here, but who knows...

  • I am working until my water breaks.  I would go stir crazy if I left any second before.  It just doesn't appeal to me to go before she arrives.
  • Not soon enough! I am working up till a couple days before my DD July 9th is my last day.

  • I plan on working up until the baby comes, though taking some extra time off here and there to stay relaxed and enjoy the last days of freedom. I don't want to get bored, but I also want to make sure I get plenty of "me" time in before the little one arrives.
  • My plan is until I go into labor or my due date whichever comes first.  I have the option of working from home once my replacement is trained, but I have found that it hurts my back just as much to work from home as it does to work at my desk.  I don't want to waste my leave before the baby comes but I am ready to be done with work...

  • Praying I do not get taken out for medical reasons early (no red flags so far). I work for the state and we do not get a maternity leave, so I want to work right up until labor, so I have all of my accruals for the baby when he arrives. I have a desk job, so it's not physically demanding. However there is one major PITA co-irker that tends to make my blood pressure soar, I could do without that this summer.

  • Originally I was going to work until the Friday before my due date but I changed my mind this week. I am just too pooped and don't have energy when I get home to do anything. I really need to get everything settled at home before Mr. Magoo arrives. Not to mention, I could use a little sleep. Tomorrow is my last day. YAY!!!!

  • My plan is to work until LO is born.  I only have 12 weeks of leave to use for the year and I would prefer to use it all after he's born.  Although at this point I wish I could start my leave next week!

  • I am an accountant and sit at a desk all day - planning on working until its time to go to the hospital.

Would rather save my time off for when baby is here rather than sit around my house and be frustrated WAITING....

  • Day before my induction.
  • My last day is tomorrow (I will be 38 weeks 3 days).  My job is a desk job and not physically demanding.  I am off until August 9th.
