Question for those who have had a D&C in the past

I had a D&C in February and I know one of the risks is cervical incompetency in a subsequent pregnancy. So now I'm really worried about that with this pregnancy (even though I know the odds of it happening are small). Has anyone here (who has had a previous D&C) spoken with their doctor about the risk of cervical incompetency with their current pregnancy? Have you undergone any additional screening? I have an appointment with my doctor in two weeks and I'm going to bring it up. Just wanted to see what others think and if I'm overreacting. Thanks!

I think a lot of the girls here have had to have a D&C... I'm almost to my due date and have not had any problems with my cervix.

My doctor never mentioned that to me as even being a possibility. Now I'm worried, too. Please let us know when you find out. My next appt isn't until the end of the month.

I was worried about that, too. However, they can see on ultrasound whether your cervix is funneling and you can take steps to deal with IC at that point. Basically - don't worry about it until you're told to worry about it. They will check your cervix at the ultrasounds you have (if you have an NT scan, they'll check it then, and then also at the anatomical scan at 18-20 weeks).

Thanks for the responses ladies! Sounds like maybe I am getting worked up about nothing.

Turtle--Good to know that they will check my cervix at the NT scan and anatomy scan. Makes me feel much better!

I've had 2 d&c's as well, and no issues. They will check your cervix at ultrasounds and be able to assist if it looks like there's any issues. I think they let you know just because it's one of the risks of the procedure, but I think the odds of it happening are generally low. Good luck!
