how much formula do you feed your 3 week old?

My LO will be 3 weeks tomorrow.  When we went in for his first appt after bringing him home, the doctor said we would know if he needed more as he would be still sucking hard after the bottle was gone (and might be rooting still) or that he would spit up if we gave him too much and "over-filled his tank" as he put it.

Right now LO is eatimg 2.5 to 3 ounces every 3 hours.  I have seen other posts that say they are feeding their LO as much as 4 ounces at 3 weeks.  I think he would take more if I offered him more but I don't want to over feed him. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

  • My DS will be 2wks on Sat and he's putting down 3-4oz every 3-4hrs...sometimes 2.5oz every 2hrs (at night).  He's a big boy tho...last week at his circ he was 9lbs 3oz at 6 days old.

  • My DS is eating 3-4 oz every 3 hours or sometimes even sooner.  He throws up a little bit but I don't think it's that much, and when we only offer 3 oz he still seems very hungry!

  • My LO is eating 2.5 ounces every 2-3 hours, so I'd say pretty close to the same as you!
