Thank you so much for the link on bottle nursing! I hadn't heard of it, but when I read about it I was surprised at how much of it we already do...I look them in the eye, talk to them, hold them in a breastfeeding position (most of the time - if I have to do tandem bottle feeding I can't, but as long as it's one at a time I do), and although Ben thought this was weird at first - he's now a convert - I insisted that they don't hold the bottle when they feed (if they want to grab something, they can hold our fingers so they have complete human contact).
Reading this makes me feel so much better about bottle feeding...which also makes me think I may have already made my decision about what I'm going to do.
I'm going to talk it over with Ben tonight...I know it's my body and I also know he'll support whatever I want to do, but I want to get his perspective (again...since we've talked about it approximately 9,164 times lol). At any rate, no matter what I choose, the boys will continue to get breastmilk for a while - even if I go to formula, I'll have to pump occasionally to relieve engorgement as my supply reduces. That's a good thing, right?
Re: *Lori - Libby's mama*
I am glad this was helpful. I had read it when we were introducing the bottle to Libby (which she promptly rejected, but I digress)...I agree with you about not letting the babies hold the bottle for themselves and certainly never propping the bottle. I cannot stand to see that! Well, unless you have 5 or 6 or 8 of them to feed...then, well you do what you have to, I suppose. But it is ideal to hold and feed them and it sounds like you intuitively have done that anyway, so good for you supermom!
And I think combo feeding is great as long as you can do it...any BM will be beneficial for as long as you can give it to them. I have read though that it's not great to combine formula and BM in the same bottle, so I am not sure if you plan to do that or not, but if so, you may want to look into it further.

I've heard this too, from a friend who does both BM and formula - she mentioned something about formula denaturing the good stuff in BM if they're mixed. But then another friend does mix the two, and when I went online to find more info, everything I found said it was okay to mix them into the same bottle. so yeah...definitely do some more research on this.
I kept reading not to do this, but never a reason WHY, so finally I asked an LC. Turns out it's just because if the baby doesn't finish the bottle, then you have to throw out breastmilk along with the formula. I go ahead and mix 'em - my kids seldom fail to finish a bottle.
