Babies: 0 - 3 Months

babies r us returns help needed

I did not have a registry.

I just got about $300 worth of random stuff from babies r us as a gift from  a male cousin who had no idea of sizes, weather and whats needed for a baby.  Much of the stuff is too small.  Some of it is the wrong weather. DD will not be able to use a lot of it.

I dont have the receipt and babies r us wont take it back without one. They said they may take the items back if they were on my registry.  I am tepted to make a registry and put the items on there.  This rule just seems silly to me as it is so easy to misuse it.

Anyone has any advice what and how I could return these items and get something I need?

thanks!

  • You wont be able to, unless you can find a different store that carries the same things that doesn't require receipts

  • Honestly, I'd just set up the registry because you know that it's from BRU.  If the items aren't from BRU, the bar codes won't match up anyways so it isn't like you're returning stuff from another store.

Are you past your due date?  Anything added past the due date doesn't count

Nevermind, you never had a registry.  Yeah, that wont work at BRU

  • Make the registry. It will be annoying but should work.
  • Can't you just ask your cousin if he has the receipt?

  • Even if you take the time to make the registry they'll know that they were purchased "from" the registry. :( Sucks... I have a diaper bag that I hate from there but because I don't have the receipt I'm stuck with it.

  • Ask your cousin if he has the receipt.

If you don't want to do that, just create a registry add the items and mark them as purchased.  Clothes are a pain in the butt to find on-line though.

  • cousin threw away the receipt.

I called babies r us and they will take back stuff only if i had a registry and the items were purchased and scanned from the registry.  they wont take back for store credit either.

So seems like i am stuck.  even if i make the registry, the items were not scanned from the registry.  and since most of it were clothes, i cannot even find them online.  Sucks!

I have 4 outfits of newborn size which DD does not fit into.  Have some 6 month sizes summer dresses which DD will outgrow in the summer.  Have bands and hair accessories and DD has no hair. I really wanted to get her an activity mat but it was so expensive.  I wished i could return all this for a mat!

  • I would make a registry and exchange the items for something you can use. Your cousins goal was to get you something nice that you will use - not to get you a bunch of stuff that will be sold or donated.

I know the target registry lets you alter it and say something was purchased even if it wasn't scanned from your registry when it was bought.  Does BRU let you do that online?  Might be worth a shot to try it?

  • Lurking, I used to be a bridal consultant for Macys and we would take returns back if they were on the registry. Because, the store has a list of the people who bought what and when. Chances are BRU has the same list, I know Target does. If it wasn't purchased off of the registry, they probably won't take it back.
  • honestly, you have no clue if LO will fit into it or not. Babies are at different sizes at different times. LO is already wearing 6 months things, for example.
  • I have returned many things to BRU without a receipt that were not on my registry. Did you go and try it? It may depend on the cashier because I tried to return something once that actually was on my registry but they didn't carry it in that particular store and the girl told me if I wanted to return it I would have to go through a process and mail it in. The next time I went to BRU I tried to return it again and they took it back no problem. I have gotten store credit every time. Also, at my BRU they take your phone number when you pay and I believe they can look up the receipt that way so ask him if they took his number down when he payed. Good luck!
  • You could always bring the things you don't want to a consignment shop. You won't get a ton of money, but it's something.

  • You can make a registry and mark them as purchased.  They don't check whether it was scanned or not, and they don't check whether the purchased box matches something in their computer.  I've done this with a lot of stuff from BRU where I lost the receipt or never received a gift receipt.  Our BRU will give you credit for the lowest price n the last 90 days if you don't have a receipt- they just take your drivers license.  Try a different store, after you set up and mark off everything on the registry.
