QOTW:  Do you plan to do any vacationing/travel this summer?  Any concerns/tips/advice on traveling with a toddler?

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

  • Not much up with me, but I am feeling better than my barfy self yesterday!

Accomplishments: He's walking all over the place and saying some words.  Not many on a consistent basis, but we're working on it.

Challenges: We're working on dropping bottles.  Its been a long process.

Vacations: Well, we just got back from a parent's-only vacation to the Bahamas.  Jacob stayed with my parents.  It was heaven, but I missed him so much!

We're also going on a big family vacation later this month with my parents, my grandma, and my brother and his family (wife, niece 4 and nephew 2).  Should be a good time, but chaos!  We all have our own bedrooms, although Jacob will be sharing a room with us.  :(  I have lists upon lists of things to bring with us, so I think that the goal is just to start packing early and remember that we're not going to a 3rd world country if we forget something.

  • Accomplishments:

We have had a language explosion!  He's coming out with lots of new words, and initiating a lot more (vs. repeating).

    Challenges:

Same old stuff.  Defiance with a grin.

    QOTW:

Yeah, we're going to DH's family's summer home on Cape Cod.  I don't really have any advice - we'll be driving.  The only thing I can think of is to time your driving so it coincides with naps.  But that's probably obvious.  Cal doesn't like being in his car seat while awake for too long, so I will likely be in the back the majority of the time, doing my best to entertain him.  :)

Childhood cancer (DH) + chemo + radiation = 0 sperm.
    LO #1 - 1 unmedicated/self-monitored IUI w/ donor sperm.
    LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).

  • Mostly I am focused on freaking out over my pregnancy right now...haha.

DS is doing great and just turned 2!  Does that count as an accomplishment?  Otherwise, he continues to talk up a storm and is stringing lots of words (6+) together now.

Our big challenge is still willfulness.  He's just stubborn and doesn't answer when you're talking to him, etc.  It's amazing that someone can be so frustrating and so sweet at the same time!  Oh, he has also been throwing total fits at every diaper change, which is getting old really fast...

QOTW: I would LOVE to take a family vacation and want to do it every summer.  But every summer, we don't get around to it because DH has a TON of business travel in the summer.  It sucks!!!!!  :(

  • Accomplishments:

Total language explosion around here! Everyday she picks up new words and she is consistently saying 2-3 word phrases. My favorite of the day is "Peeeeees Mama".

    Challenges:

She loves to tell us "No!" and throws a total fit if she doesn't get her way. She also has been a little rough when she thinks that Bella is getting too much attention (especially while nursing).

    QOTW:

We will probably end up taking a weekend trip somewhere but no "real" vacation. We will probably leave a few hours before Maya's "normal" wake up time to maximize staying on the road and not making so many stops!

Not too much up.  We had a great, but busy weekend, and I'm trying to recover from that. :-)

Accomplishments:  Both DDs are getting more words which is a trip.  Also, DDs are starting to move up to the toddler room in daycare which is exciting.  They've spent a good bit of time there recently, but last week they even ate (at tables and chairs) and napped (on a mat) there too!

Challenges:  Brushing teeth is still my least favorite thing to do.  We have some occasional biting too.  We've having some occasional tantrums, but (knock on wood) they are infrequent enough they are still amusing at this point.

Travel plans:  We're flying to California in July which is somewhat daunting.  I'm not as worried about DDs as I am about trying to figure out the logistics of the stuff.  We have seats on the plane for them so we'll be taking their carseats plus a stroller plus whatever to keep them occupied on the plane plus them and how do we manage it all through the airport.  I'm also trying to figure out what to do about booster seats/high chairs while we're out there.  I bet we'll be eating at lot at my BIL's house which means we've got to come up with some plan.   I may just order a couple cheap ones online and send them to their house.

We took a road trip earlier this month and it wasn't nearly as bad as I imagined.  We had a lot of stuff, but that's the beauty of taking the minivan. :-)  We were lucky and could split the 9 hour trip into two days by stopping at SIL's house on the way up and back.  DDs slept a good deal in the car which was helpful.  I had gotten a bunch of random toys before we left to keep them occupied and they were so-so about them.  They really did like the mini-magnadoodles and they were fans of "looking"/tearing up some old catalogs I threw in the car.

  • Oh yeah, biting!!  We've been dealing with that a bit.  I hate it.  He has bitten us a few times - it seems to be in fun and/or just being experimental w/ his teeth (it's usually on our shoulder while we're holding him).  Not aggressive in nature.  But when we tell him not to, he of course smiles and wants to keep doing it.

Then he apparently bit his babysitter's daughter the other day b/c she had a toy he wanted.  UGH.  I know it's normal, but I was really hoping MY kid wouldn't do that. ;)

  • Nothing is up.  She is napping and I am getting ready to wake her up.  Not sure how to handle it becuase we have a hair appointment in a half hour and she hasn't eaten lunch yet.

No real accomplisments.  DD is really into the "Watch me"  phase where i watch her do somthing like spin fast or try to climb a wall and I am supposed to wildly applaud the effort.  She will be getting her first haircut this afternoon.

Challenges:  Not sure if I can think of any right now.  Oh she spent a weekend with my mom and my 8 year old stepneice who taught her a few bad things.  One of which is What's Up Stinky Butt"  Not cool in my book I told her we don't talk like that.  But I am afriad if I draw too much attention she will do it more.

No vacay this summer, we will be going to california for my SIL wedding in Sept.  Saving up for that.

accomplishments... lots of words and jumping all over the place.  Getting better at going to sleep in her bed.

Challenges...  pushing other kids and a potty regression.  I'm sure a lot is due to the new baby, but it's driving me crazy.

We are taking a 2 week vacation in sept.  my mom is flying out with us so that should help, but I'm nervous!

  • Latest accomplishments?

words are coming up everywhere.  Ethan thinks his name is Elmo.

    Latest challenges?

Ethan thinks his name is elmo.  He responds to Ethan but calls himself elmo and we can not convince him that is not his name.  Owen thinks it is funny to do something I just told him he couldnt do.  They are working together to open doors and escape (oh so fun) and climbing on everything.

QOTW:  Do you plan to do any vacationing/travel this summer?  Any concerns/tips/advice on traveling with a toddler?

We will be taking a 9 day car trip.  In order to do so we will spend 39 hrs in the car.  God help us.

  • Not much going on here!

    No real new accomplishments.

Biggest challanges lately have been seperation anxiety. He won't let me out of his sight for 1 minute without screaming and crying.

We are only traveling to Saint Louis 1 more time which is an 8 hour drive. We just did this over Memorial Day and it was torture. We are planning on investing in a portable DVD player to make trip #2 hopefully go smoother.
