when did you introduce eggs?
i know you should wait till LO is at least 9 months old but for some reason my hubby and i didnt feel like making dinner last night so we just made eggs and for some stupid reason i decided to put a little tiny piece on LO's high char to play w/.. he didn't eat it but played w/ it and then rubbed it around his eye -20 minutes later we're in the ER and he's getting pumped w/ IV and and steroids. We were in the ER for over 5 hours. My little baby looked like a little red balloon. His entire face swelled up. it was the worst night of my entire life.
We even got yelled at for driving to the hospital and not calling 911..
I took him to his pedi today and she gave us an EpiPen just incase -i'm petrified of ever needing to use it.
Has anyone experienced an allergic reaction yet?
Re: Eggs = ER trip
Our pedi said no eggs for 2 years - period. In fact, one of my DH's coworkers just took his 3 year old to the ER when they finally introduced egg.
Sorry you went through that!!! I hope your DS is feeling better!!!
Oh my gosh, I would be horrified! I hope your LO feels better soon!
I think we're waiting until 1 year to introduce eggs. We'll discuss with our pedi at our 6 month appt and see what he thinks.
Do you or DH have food allergies or do they run in your family?
neither of us have any allergies at all, no one in our family has any allergy (my brother suddenly became allergic to cats -but that's it)... which is why i also never assumed he would. i was very wrong.
My BFP Chart
BFP 12/19/08 m/c 12/26/08 4 weeks 5 days BFP 10/12/12 m/c 11/19/12 9 weeks...love you forever my angel babies!
That's really scary. I'm glad he's ok. One of my coworkers took her daughter to the ER on her birthday because the smash cake she bought had pasteurized egg whites in the icing. The DD rubbed the icing all over her face and then broke out in hives. What a horrible end to your 1st birthday party. I plan to make my own smash cake now just to avoid eggs a little longer.
ugh, i'm so afraid of this! that sux you had to go through that.
we just found out last week that DD is allergic to milk and eggs through a skin test. i'm glad i asked for it (she has eczema), because otherwise we may have done the same thing unknowingly. they gave us a prescription for an epi pen too, which totally freaked me out, but now i'm glad we have that, just in case.
glad your LO is ok.
I think it's just the egg whites you have to worry about. Egg yolks can be introduced around 8 months. This is what wholsomebabyfood says:
"Most pediatric resources agree that egg yolks are fine for <the non-allergenic> baby to eat when baby is around 8 months old. Please keep in mind that the egg whites should not be fed to baby before 1 year old."

Edit: Also, I'm so sorry you had such a tramautic experience!

I'm curious, did your LO play w/ the egg white and yolk? I've heard the same re: PP stating that at 8 months the yolks are fine unless there is a family history of allergies.
Sorry you had to experience this
my LO also has eczema (pretty bad case) and my pedi actually said she's not surprised he has allergies since a lot of babies w/ eczema have allergies. i never knew that.
thanks.. i never knew that yolks are ok and whites are not.. but at this point im not taking a risk w/ either.
thanks for the site
i just made regular scrambled whole eggs and just put little pieces on his tray -it's about the size of a crumb.. a small crumb.. and he was just playing w/ them -kept him quite while we finished our food.. but it was around his bed time so he was just rubbing his eyes and i guess that's what caused it. thank god he did not eat it!!!!
