Clicky poll - name spelling

Reid or Reed?[Poll]

Re: Clicky poll - name spelling

  • Reid is a person, reed is part of an oboe mouthpiece IMO.

I think you should add Read to the list and draw out the Special Snowflake crowd. :)

  • I prefer Reid for a boy and Reed for a girl.

(Yes, I know a reed is what goes on an instrument, I am a music teacher, but I happen to like that spelling). I have seen Reade, but I don't love that at all.

    I agree with this.

I feel the exact same way. I just have been seeing it spelled Reed a lot recently.

LOL I thought about that. I was like someone is going to mention another way of spelling (and be serious) it just because I didn't put other/special snowflake.

Thanks. If we have a boy, and we stick with this name, he will definitely be Reid. :)

  • Both are derived from surnames and Reed was actually the more popular spelling at one time. We went with Reed because it was my grandmother's maiden name and is my father's middle name.  I have seen it this way my whole life so while I don't dislike the spelling Reid, I do prefer Reed.

I have noticed that when I give his name for appointments they spell it correctly 99% of the time without asking first which makes me think a lot of people associate with the Reed spelling....It will probably change in the future since Reid seems to be taking over.

  • Definitely Reid. I don't like Reed
