DS has a horrible painful diaper rash. We have used Boudreaux's, Desitin, and Balmex, nothing seems to help. I took him to the pedi last Friday and they said to call back if its not gone in a week.
We've also tried baking soda in his bath water. I can't even change his diapers because it is so painful. Poor little guy shakes all over and screams b/c the pain is so bad
What can I do between now and Friday to stop the pain?
This is all thanks to the little girl who told me she felt like she was going to "frow up" so she didn't go to school, but her Mom brought her to the park to play anyways. DS got diarrhea the next day.
Re: We are in diaper rash hell! Suggestions?
DD just got over a stomach virus and her diaper rash was pretty bad.
She wouldn't let me get near her w/the Desitin and I was not brave enough to let her run around naked to let it air out... Eventually she got to a point where she wouldn't even let me use a wipe on her unless she had a poopy diaper.
The only thing that worked for me was to keep her body cook (we did lots of cool plain water baths in the tub, with just her usual Aveeno oatmeal bath soap to cleanse. I didn't even put it on that area... Just on her tummy and back and when I rinsed it sort of ran over the area), and to not feed her anything acidic until her tummy healed. It is totally gone now, w/out using any Desitin. It did take a few days, so if you are brave enough to wait it out, i'd try that.
Reading the ingredients, it is pretty much the stuff I was talking about only a brand name (mine is generic). It worked very well!
If you are sure its not yeasty, throw some corn starch or flour in a skillet and cook it. Let it cool and put it on his bum. If you have a cast iron skillet, use that.
I know it sounds crazy, but it works. I work in a nursing home and was talking about a terrible diaper rash that dd had. One of my patients told me this and it worked like a charm. She had 11 kids and used it on all of them, so I thought it was worth a shot!
I swear by Calmoseptine. You can read reviews on amazon too but I pretty much promise this stuff is amazing. It was rec by my pedi and it's the only cream we use know. It has many uses but clearing up diaper rash/dairrhea rash is one of them. It's found in the pharmacy area at the drugstore or supermarket.
That is the stuff we used!! I could not think of the name for the life of me. THanks!
We've had the same issue, and were just at the pedi's yesterday for it. We got a compounded cream that is a combo of hydrocortisone and a cream that fights yeast infections - it's already working. That, and covering the rash with Ihle's Paste (look for it in the first aid section).
Also, we make sure just to use wet, soft paper towel instead of wipes whenever his skin is irritated. The wipes make it so much worse!
Good luck!

Maximum strength desitin, maalox, and a&d ointment. Mix equal parts. Apply it like you are frosting a cake. I have even used a small spatula to get a good glop in before I spread it over her. Also, try to give him as much air as you can...just letting him be naked!
Our dd gets bleeding open soar diaper rashes with every tooth! This stuff works amazing!
The only thing that I found was not extremely painful for my son, and seemed to help a tiny bit, was a bottle of that Evian spray that I kept in the fridge and then used to spray his butt. Although, you don't need to buy that spray. You can get a spray bottle of water and stick that in the fridge. I liked the mistiness of the Evian spray though. I sprayed him with that, which helped him. Then make sure to pat instead of rub. Some Aveeno diaper rash cream slathered on thick will provide a good barrier. Unfortunately, the rash is not going to fully heal until the diarrhea is gone.
Don't use commercial wipes - they all have alcohol in them. The only ones that don't are the Lansinoh wipes - I can get them at Target.
I did not like Calmoseptine, but I do love Pinxav. And Aquafor. And Nystatin for the yeasty infections. And I would dry her butt with a hairdryer on low to make sure she was completely dry during changes - she liked it!
