I subscribed to Consumer Reports and have begun my search for the nursery furniture. The top 6 cribs come in all sorts of price ranges! Most of them I do like. Only a couple of them are sold at BRU, which offered great reviews. Also, I purchased our bedroom set off an online vendor (but a reliable brand) and am considering buying the nursery set from there too (assuming the reviews and price are right).
What brand is your crib?
Where did you buy your furniture? If shipped, how long did it take?
What made you choose that one (ie., price, look, color, etc)?
Do all the pieces match? If not, different colors, or just different collection but same color?
How far along where you when you bought the furniture?
Anything else to consider?
Re: Nursery Furniture Poll
I haven't purchased anything yet. DH and I have done some research and we have an idea of what we want. I'm basically waiting for my summer vacation to start (in less than 2 weeks, woohoo!) to get started on the nursery and my registry. We hope to have all the baby furniture purchased by the end of July.
So far, I really like the Bright Steps furniture at BRU and their matching pieces. But, I want to see it in person and check out some more safety reveiws before making any purchases.
What brand is your crib? All our furniture is Dutailer
Where did you buy your furniture? If shipped, how long did it take? Baby Love. I think it came in about 6 weeks after we ordered it.
What made you choose that one (ie., price, look, color, etc)? It was a combination. We wanted something gender neutral and easy to grow with them. We also wanted something that was going to last since we want to use this nursery for all children.
Do all the pieces match? If not, different colors, or just different collection but same color? They all match - color and collection.
How far along where you when you bought the furniture? I think I was about 30 weeks.
Anything else to consider? Really look at the functionality of the pieces. Can you store things under the crib? Where will you be changing diapers? Do you want a convertible crib? Will this furniture grow with these babies or is it for a true nursery and you'll get all new pieces for a "big kid" room?
We knew that we wanted very little furniture. We got a crib, dresser, bookcase, and glider. I did not want a convertible crib because I want to use it again for our next baby. Our dresser is our change table with a pad on top. It looks very adult so when we are done using it in a nursery. Our bookcase was our "splurge" just so it could match. I wanted something durable though since it was going in the baby's room. I would not have a problem ordering any of it online except for the glider. I sat in them and really tested them out.
What brand is your crib? We just bought a new crib for Baby2 and it is a DaVinci.
Where did you buy your furniture? If shipped, how long did it take? Just purchased from AlbeeBaby.com on Thursday for $197! It is a convertible 4-in-1 and it will be arriving today (free shipping).
What made you choose that one (ie., price, look, color, etc)? I like DaVinci (Quinn's toddler bed and dresser are DaVinci and they are sturdy and safe) and liked the look of the crib. Plus, albeebaby.com had a 15% off code and free shipping. I shopped around at several stores once I decided on the crib so I could bet the best price. Some stores carried the same crib for $250+!
Do all the pieces match? If not, different colors, or just different collection but same color? I ordered the honey oak color to match a changing table that I used with Quinn as a baby. I will find out today how close the colors are. They are different brands so I expect the color to vary a little.
How far along where you when you bought the furniture? I'm 30 weeks and just getting the nursery put together.
Anything else to consider? We got a 4-in1 convertible crib for this baby because we know that we are done and he will use it as a toddler bed too. If you are planning on more kids, you may not want to spend the extra money on a convertible and can consider a good quality but lesser expensive crib since you can use if for the next baby and then put your twins in regular beds when they transition -- just a thought because a lot of my friends have done that.
What brand is your crib? Crib & Dresser are both Bonavita
Where did you buy your furniture? If shipped, how long did it take? We ordered from buybuyBABY since we were able to use the 20% off La Ideal coupons there. They said 8-10 weeks and it took 10 weeks exactly.
What made you choose that one (ie., price, look, color, etc)? We bought Baby Bargains and took it with us when we went to pick out the pieces. BB gave Bonavita an A and we really liked their Peyton collection so we went with that.
Alexis liked that none of the hardward was exposed and it felt like really durable wood.
Do all the pieces match? If not, different colors, or just different collection but same color? Yup both match.
How far along where you when you bought the furniture? We ordered when I was 23 weeks.
Anything else to consider? In addition to Baby Bargains I looked up mommies opinions on the Nurseries & Baby Gear board. We also wanted the crib to be functional as a toddler bed. The dresser comes with the attachment for the changing pad and what I like about that is it attached behind the dresser so there are no holes or pegs to mess us the dresser top. Once I don't need the changing pad anymore I can just take the attachment off and it didn't harm the dresser.

What brand is your crib? Babi Italia
Where did you buy your furniture? If shipped, how long did it take? BRU, I think it was a few weeks, shorter than they said it would be. The glider took longer, it's like 2-3 months i think!?
What made you choose that one (ie., price, look, color, etc)? The look, the color, the price. We wanted a 3 in 1 convertible crib.
Do all the pieces match? If not, different colors, or just different collection but same color? We got all matching sets. Dresser, Armoire, and Crib. And the Glider is Dutailer and matches well.
How far along where you when you bought the furniture? We ordered it when I was about 18 weeks because the glider takes a while to come in.
What brand is your crib? Bassett
Where did you buy your furniture? BRU
What made you choose that one (ie., price, look, color, etc)? Consumer Reports and reviews online played a part, but I'm really glad I got to see it in person and "test drive" it. I knew I wanted a white crib, so it was just a matter of narrowing it down from there. I had fallen in love with a PBK crib online, but when I actually saw it in person, I was less than thrilled.
Do all the pieces match? No If not, different colors, or just different collection but same color? We went with white and espresso furniture. Different collections.
How far along where you when you bought the furniture? Not sure on this one. I already knew we were having a girl though, so it was definitely after 20 weeks.
Anything else to consider? Take a look at the wood. Does it chip easily? Can you dent it with your fingernail if you press on it? Is the height of the crib comfortable for you to reach in and pick up baby? There were some cribs that were too tall for me to comfortably bend down and reach my baby (even at highest setting), so check out reviews on that, too. Good luck!!
Where did you buy your furniture? If shipped, how long did it take? We bought it at BRU. We bought a floor model, so we took it home that day.
What made you choose that one (ie., price, look, color, etc)? It was just what we were looking for--a simple crib, non-convertible, drop-side (at the time it was not known to be dangerous) dark but not black wood, classic looking.
Do all the pieces match? If not, different colors, or just different collection but same color? Um, you mean does it match the rest of the furniture in the room? No. We bought the dresser at Baby Love, and it is the same type of dark (mahogany/cherry type) wood color, and we liked it so we bought it. The glider is a light wood, but we had that for years and never got a new one. But it is covered with throw blankets, so you hardly notice the color (although it is wood).
How far along where you when you bought the furniture? Don't remember. 6 months or so?
Anything else to consider? I checked out Consumer Reports, too! That was one reason we went with a simple crib. Enjoy shopping!
What brand is your crib? Baby Mod
Where did you buy your furniture? If shipped, how long did it take? The crib was from Walmart, the dresser and bookcase were from Ikea, and the upholstered glider was from BRU. We did site-to-store for the crib and it took about 2 weeks to arrive at the Walmart we chose for pick up.
What made you choose that one (ie., price, look, color, etc)? Price, look, and size. I wanted a really traditional sleigh crib, but they were all really big and her nursery was small (10x10), not to mention pricey. I would have never gone for just a modern-looking crib since I like a slightly more traditional, vintage-y look, but then I saw my crib in an otherwise traditionally-decorated room and it fit right in, so that sold me on it. A few months after I bought my crib, I saw this blog post which would have further convinced me to buy my crib had I seen it then: https://www.younghouselove.com/2010/02/nursery-progress-crib-notes/
Do all the pieces match? If not, different colors, or just different collection but same color? None of our pieces match! We just got everything in white, so it all "blended." If we had a boy, we would have gone with espresso-colored wood and in that case, I would have bought a set so that the finish would match. But since we decided on white for a girl, it gave me a lot of freedom to mix and match.
How far along where you when you bought the furniture? 30 weeks or so.
Anything else to consider? Measure everything and figure out exactly how you want to arrange it in the room before you buy it.
What brand is your crib? Ragazzi
Where did you buy your furniture? If shipped, how long did it take? I bought from Ideal Baby- It took about 8 weeks to arrive.
What made you choose that one (ie., price, look, color, etc)? I chose based on looks and Baby Bargains ratings.
Do all the pieces match? If not, different colors, or just different collection but same color? Nadia's furniture is all white. I got her crib, dresser, book case, rocking chair (Dutalier)
How far along where you when you bought the furniture? 18 weeks
Anything else to consider? I got a convertible crib (toddler bed, then full bed). Now that I think about it- I will probably use this crib for #2 and get Nadia a toddler bed. Nadia's crib was $500 plus the pieces to convert. I should have probably saved the money and just bought a regular crib. I'm sure I will be much more sensible for my next baby! ;-)
