My husband and I just decided two days ago to go off BC. Of course I know that GP could take anywhere from one time to a year or more... But I am just curious.
How long after you stopped BC did you GP?
Where you trying or just not preventing?
And the question I am most interested in, did you have symptoms before you tested or did you find out from tests alone?
Please share any interesting stories about GP that you would like. I am new to this!
Re: Some questions for 1st tri-ladies or anyone who's gone through pregnancy
Make a pregnancy ticker
I stopped taking BC in Nov 09, but we didn't start trying until March. I wanted to get the BC "out of my system" first. I spoke to my OB about waiting to GP a few months after stopping BC and she said it doesn't really matter, but I know a lady that m/c right after stopping her BC. So I dunno if it had anything to do with that or not.
Anyways I charted temps and it took us one cycle of charting temps to GP, we actually were trying for about 2 cycles.
Good Luck!
I had not even been off my BC for 1 full cycle when I got pregnant. In fact when I didn't get my period the month after I stopped it I figured it was just b/c my body was readjusting to being off BC for so long. I took a test on a whim and sure enough I was pregnant!
We had decided to start trying (but obviously we didn't think we would get pregnant the first month, so it was kind of a shock!)
I didn't really notice any symptoms, some cramping like as if I was going to get my period, but that's it. Mostly figured it out from testing.
Good luck on your TTC adventure!
I got pg 4 months after stopping bc. The only symptom I had initially was sore breasts and that happened on the day I was supposed to get AF. Took the test that same day and positive!
Good Luck!
I got pg 6 months after stopping bcp.
At first we were not preventing, but my first cycle was 60+ days long and I was going crazy. After that I started charting.
my only symptom was the fact that i had spotting, major period symptoms, in fact even put in a tampon thinking AF would start.
and what is funny is I just experienced the same exact thing with this baby...(hjust found out today I'm pg again)
good luck!
Definitely go on the trying to get pregnant board.
The first time I got pregnant 7 months after going off BC. This time it took 20 months.
I stopped bc in the summer of 08. I had been on it for 10 years and decided to give my body a break. DH and I TTA until we were ready to start trying in April 2010. I got pregnant the first month we tried. I didn't chart, but did keep track of cervical mucus, so I knew when I was ovulating.
As for knowing I was pregnant, I knew about 8 DPO when I was crying over any little thing. I've never been like that in my life and knew something was up.
I got pregnant the second cycle after stopping BCP. I would definitely recommend the Trying to Get Pregnant Board and also charting with fertilityfriend.com
Good luck!
Where you trying or just not preventing? Trying, but our timing was bad due to DH's travel for work (see my chart in the link in my siggy).
And the question I am most interested in, did you have symptoms before you tested or did you find out from tests alone? Just normal PMS (or what I thought were PMS) symptoms. I was tired, sore boobs, but nothing that different than any other month.
TTGP is an amazing board. Lurk there and join in after you get a feel for it. Nearly everything I know about TTC I learned from TTGP!
I stopped taking bc April 19th and found out i was pregnant May 16th. It didnt take anytime for me. We were trying then again we werent really trying. I didnt chart or anything we just did it when we were in the mood. Right after I concieved my breast hurt really bad and i was a little nasaus. Good luck.
I went off the pill in early December and we used condoms until February, to make sure my cycle had stabilized. We started trying in February and we just got our BFP yesterday. This is cycle 4. Charting is good, and fertilityfriend.com has lots of info. I wasn't planning to because I get ovulation pains, but I started because sometimes you can see certain patterns in temperatures that suggest pregnancy and the 2WW is a long time and I wanted anything I could to get an edge on it.
In learning more about charting I found out that ovulation pains are not always on the day of, they can be before or after as well. Mine do fall on the day of, but I'm really glad I charted to check that. I really wish I had NOT learned about temp patterns that suggest pregnancy, because one temp by itself doesn't tell you anything, and it's really easy to obsess over each temp. Only to be disappointed a day or two later when a trend doesn't pan out.
As far as pre-test symptoms:
- I thought I saw a triphasic pattern on my chart (a third higher level of temps), but the temps dropped the 5th day to well below my other post ovulation temps, so that was exciting and I was trying hard not to get my hopes up, but they were really up and then it was so depressing to see the plummet.
- My breasts got
really sore (I have basically worn a bra constantly since Thursday, and
my usual underwires I can't stand, only sports bras.) a couple days
before AF was due, and that's not a usual AF symptom for me. However, I
had gotten a touch of it (tenderness for maybe a day, but I didn't need
change bras) the previous month as well, so I couldn't be sure.
- Also the night before I tested I was noticing some cramping. This is a usual AF symptom for me, so it was rather depressing.
I strongly recommend waiting until your period is at least 1 day late to test. You might get a positive sooner. More likely you waste a test, get a negative, and either have to use another later or get AF. In the 4 months I tried I ended up testing early every single month, and it's hard seeing the negative but knowing there's still hope. I did it accidentally. My first 2 cycles off the pill were 29 and 28 days. So the first month I threw up the morning of day 27 and called in to work. (I'd had a cold.) But the more I thought about it I was afraid I'd called in with morning sickness, so I tested that day, and again the next morning, to be sure I hadn't. That cycle was 28 days as well. So the next two months when day 29 had come and gone I tested the morning of day 30 and both times I got my period later Day 30. This time around I forced myself to wait until both day 30 and 31 had passed with no AF.Good luck!
We stoppd BC in December and got pregnant 3 months later (and were TTC during that time). I started doing ovulation kits the 2nd month in since my cycles were like 22-24 days (short) each and didn't ovluate until the 3rd month when we got pregnant!
Good luck but I'd recommend ovulation kits!
I got off BC pills in January 04 and didn't start TTC until July 04. We got pg very quickly. However, from January to July, my periods were very erratic. (I think my first AF post BC pills was normal, but after that they were pretty messed up.) I believe I had a few anovulatory cycles before my body got regulated. I never have gotten back on the pill so I can't relate that to my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies.
Also, I was feeling really off when I got my first BFP so I knew something was up. I was tired, nauseated and just felt gross.
GL!
How long after you stopped BC did you GP?
We stopped BC in Oct '09 and got pregnant April '10.
Where you trying or just not preventing?
We didn't chart my ovulation or body temperature. we just went with the flow. we figured it would happen when it wanted to happen. So, I guess we weren't preventing it.
And the question I am most interested in, did you have symptoms before you tested or did you find out from tests alone?
Looking back I noticed some symptoms but I mistook them for period symptoms. For example, cramping which was implantation, extremely sore boobs.
I went off BC in January, and I got pregnant in April. I was charting during those four months, because like other posters I wanted to get the hormones out of my system before DH and I started TTC. We decided to officially start trying in April, and I got pregnant the first weekend.
The only thing that made me start to wonder was the fact that I was tired ALL. THE. TIME. Seriously, it didn't seem to matter if I got 12 or 2 hours of sleep, I couldn't stop yawning. After my period was a week late, I took the test.
How long after you stopped BC did you GP? 3 months for both DD & this pg
Where you trying or just not preventing? Trying/Charting
Did you have symptoms before you tested or did you find out from tests alone? I found out from a test
With our son, I got pregnant on the 3rd cycle after stopping BCP. I didn't chart and we were trying to get pregnant.
With this pregnancy, I got pregnant the cycle after I stopped taking the Pill. So I finished the pack, had a period, and got a BFP three weeks later.
I personally was off my BC for two weeks and got pregnant. We were just going with the idea that it might take a couple months and whatever happens, happens! So here we are now with a little one on the way- 8 weeks along. I did have sensitive breasts the week before my missed cycle but thought that it was only the hormones working there way out of my body so I thought nothing of it until I was a week late.
Good luck!
I went off my BC on March 27th and 3 days later my period started.
My Husband and I sort of started trying but we figured nothing would happen. But by April 26th, we found out I was pregnant (about 4 weeks).
We noticed I was really tired and that my migraines got worse. But we figured it was due to my low iron and working too hard.
Now, I'm 9.5 weeks pregnant and things are good. I haven't thrown up yet, but I have been nauseous all day, everyday. And I'm super moody.
Good luck!
Where you trying or just not preventing? More than "trying", we did IUI.
And the question I am most interested in, did you have symptoms before you tested or did you find out from tests alone? I did have symptoms with the BFPs, but I also had phantom symptoms for many BFN cycles. Just take it easy during the 2ww and don't obsess (if possible).
Please share any interesting stories about GP that you would like. I am new to this! I suggest posting on TTGP and learning from them. Read TCOYF and decide if charting is for you. Know that it takes a healthy couple up to a year to concieve.
With #1 it took us 1 week to conceive after stopping birth control and with #2 it took us 3 weeks. We weren't trying, but we weren't preventing. Just a "let's see what happens" kind of attitude.
My symptoms with each were different. The first time my breasts hurt really bad and that's why I took a test. This time I was sick for three days before I took a pregnancy test. Man, those little pink lines appeared fast!!
