Success after IF

To those who know Philadelphia burbs...

We may be on the brink of selling our home in upstate NY.  We want to be in PA, within reasonable distance of our family's cottage in Wyoming County PA.  North East-ish.  We like the idea of the Northern Philadelphia suburbs because:

We need conveniences.  We thought we'd like a lake house in the Poconos, but it was so RURAL.  That's part of what we don't like about where we live now.  Frank doesn't want to have to "drive 60 miles to buy a pair of pants".  We're looking for a summer home, so schools don't matter.  We like the idea of being so close to Phili, which has trains to NYC, and Phili has culture.  Stuff to do.

We're looking for a house that must have an office / extra bedroom for Frank to work.  Things like central AC are a must!  We like bells & whistles but need to figure out how much we want to spend.  We'd like to buy our REAL house in FL, and the summer place in PA.

I like the idea of a lake where we could have a little powerboat or something like that, but that would jack the price.

Ideas?

  • Maybe somewhere in bucks county? That is north of Philly and maybe you can look for something near the Delaware river. I know of people who boat and go tubing there.

  • my parents house (that I am likely about to buy!) is about 4 minutes from the delaware. I suggest that area! perfect for commutable distance. I need to get E in for a nap, but I will send you some ideas later!

start with point Pleasant Pa, Upper Black Eddy, Plumsteadville, and so on! :)

  • I also know that there are some areas in NJ, Like Medford lakes that are closer to civilation 45 minutes from Philly but close to great shopping & resturants in Cherry HIll and Marlton but have the "Pocono type" communities.

  • I would think Bucks county or maybe some areas of Montgomery county would fit what you are looking for.  I live in southern Philly burbs so I do not know those areas super well but it may be a place to start.
  • I am not real familiar with those areas but I agree with the pps about looking in nothern Bucks and Montgomery counties. That way you will not be too far from the city but still somewhere quiet. You can also look in Berks, Lehigh & Northampton but you will be futher away.
