We don't have a history of peanut allergies in our family, but our pedi still wants us to wait until he's 18m, so we're waiting until then. I'm planning to give it to him at home.
I'm more worried about it being a choking hazard than an allergen.
Yeah i am worried about choking too but i dont plan on giving her A LOT to start with. this weekend when we were camping her cousin was eating nutter butter's(the little crackers with pb inside) and she gave one to her...im like NO she cant have that!! even though i know she wouldnt have choked on that little bit.
We gave him pb for the first time at 14 months. We were at home. He doesn't like it on bread, but he like a thin layer between two crackers. We have no history of food allergies with him or in our family though.
We had no history of peanut allergies in our families and we gave it to DD at 2 and DS at about 20 months. However, after having PB several times over the last 10 months DS had an allergic reaction a few weeks ago. His Dr also said that the first exposure almost never has a reaction, it's repeated exposure that will cause reactions (IF they're allergic). She said we waited the right amount of time (between 18-24 months), but that we're lucky we didnt try it sooner because the reactions in kids under 15 months can be much worse.
I think around 16 or 17 months for both girls--no history of allergies in the family and pedi gave us the go ahead. She gave some GREAT tips for us:
1. Do it during office hours in case of a reaction to avoid a trip to the ER
2. Spread a small amount of PB on the child's hand to see if their skin reacts. If no reaction, go to the next step.
3. Put a small dab on the child's lip and let them lick it. If no reaction, go to the next step.
4. Give a bite of bread/toast/cracker with PB on it.
It is nerve-wracking, for sure! I am a super logical, step-following person so the pedi's recommended approach was right up my alley and took the edge off, definitely.

My DD had her first peanut product at age 8 months. She eats PB&J sandwhiches all the time now (she's just like her daddy).
To answer your question we were at home. I made noodles with thai peanut sauce and chicken. She loved every bite.
