Packing a bag...not enough clothes??

Hi ladies - I was just upstairs trying to pack my bag for the hospital and I realized I just don't have enough "extra" clothes to pack away and not use during the week...

I have a bunch of winter/early spring items - but, here in GA it's SO hot and humid already - the few Summer items I have I need!!!

Anyone else having this issue? What did you do?  I hate to go spend more on maternity clothes that I may not need in 3 weeks (or less!)!

pack everything else and put a post it on your bag that says, "grab shirt / skirt" or what ever it is you want to pack but can't right now.

  • I went to second hand stores, and got allot of stuff there.
  • i bought a non-maternity maxi dress for $20 at target...it is roomy enough for me now and it will fit after baby. that way i didnt feel so bad about spending $$ on clothes so close to the end!  and you can also wear the same things every other day, you have pregnancy permission!!

  • You can always just make sure your laundry is done a couple times a week so you can grab some clean clothes on your way out the door OR have your husband come home and get clothes for you if you're unable to get home before going to the hospital.
  • Just have your bag ready with the other stuff and add whatever clothes you want when it's time to leave. Chances are it won't be an emergency, and if you have to get someone to bring you something at the hospital that will be fine. i definitely wouldn't buy clothes just so you can have them sit in a bag for a month because you might want them at the hospital.

  • FWIW, I barely wore any of my clothes when I was in the hospital with DD. I wore the gowns the whole time.

  • Yep, I bought two pairs of lightweight stretchy knee-length yoga pants and it's so hot here I keep pulling them out of my suitcase and wearing them! I'm just trying to keep them relatively clean and keep up with laundry so if we have to go I can just grab them.

I do have a decent-sized list on top of my suitcase of things to grab last minute. Like my hairdryer and little makeup bag - obviously not going to pack that weeks ahead of time or buy duplicates of all my makeup.

    This.

I wear my gauchos and nightgowns now, and I want them in the hospital.  I am just staying on top of laundry and there's a list of last-minute stuff on top of my bag that either DH or I will grab when it's time.

  • I have the same issue but mine is that I only like wearing few clothes around the house which are the same things I want to take to the hospital.  For now I am packing everything for LO & some basic stuff like toiletries, nursing  bra & tanks for myself.  I will pack the rest of my clothes last minute.
  • Yep.  I only have 2 pairs of pants that fit right now.  So...they're going in last minute.  Same with the one casual maxi dress I have.

  • Thanks ladies - I like the list on top of bag idea...

I have about 3 outfits that I'm comfy in - and I need those!!! I'm really not bringing a lot to the hospital - more toiletries than anything else!

  • I have the same issue. My "going home" clothes will be the ones I am wearing now as they are yoga pants mostly. I only have 2 pairs though and I only have 1 s/s shirt and 2 tank tops.  I plan on packing what I can and leaving myself a note of exactly what else I need.  That's about all I can do.
  • All you need to pack is 1 outfit to go home in, and a nightgown if you want.  I only wore the hospital gowns while I was there and never took my pj's out of the bag.

  • i only have a few items left that are big enough & comfy.  i just keep doing laundry so something is always clean to wear to the hospital.

in my bag i packed a knit skirt & nursing tanks/shirts - since they arent maternity they dont fit now anyway.  then i have a list of all the last items i cant pack yet anyway & on the list is 'one outfit'.  chances are i will wear the hospital gown until i leave anyway.

  • The only outfit I needed was a outfit to go home in.
  • Don't over pack. With DD, I packed pjs and a going home outfit (comfy cotton dress) and I ended up wearing the hospital gown the whole time and wearing the pants I wore in home (lounge pants). Just make sure you bring a nursing bra and a pair of old underwear (although I never wore them either, I stuck to the mesh ones they gave you, and some toiletries so you can shower and feel like yourself.

This.  I didn't have this problem with clothes but things like our toothbrushes.  I have a post it on the outside of the bag that has a list of things to put in there on our way to the hospital 'toothbrushes, hairbrush, deoderant" etc.  No use in buying two just so my bag can have one.
