Did any of you deal with ear infections with your LOs? I took Aidan to the pedi last Wed and he has infections in both ears. This is the first time. He had a temp, green drainage from both eyes, drainage from his nose and a slight cough. They put him on amoxicillin twice a day and the dr said he should feel much better by Sat.
I don't think he is much better. He spiked a temp until Sat. His eye drainage is gone. His cough has gotten worse and keeps him up most nights. I am doing saline in his nose and bulb suctioning but I don't get much. He acts ok during the day but nights are awful.
Is this the usual course? I am calling the dr when they open but wanted to see if y'all had any advice.
Thanks!
Re: ear infections
sorry, I tried to edit and it didn't work.
I am also sick so it doesn't help. I also have fluid in my ears, pus on my tonsils(sorry if TMI), and cough and congestion. I got 2 shots, cough syrup and I am also on amoxicillin for 10 days.
It has not been fun in the Crocker house!!
We went through a horrible ordeal with Allie's ears. She started out the same as Aiden. Amoxicillin did not take care of it for us, and we ended up having the same ear infection from Thanksgiving week until the last week of January. We did 8 different antibiotics and ended up with tubes.
That being said...the antibiotics do not always take care of it. They like to start with amoxicillin and then go to things that are stronger. If by now he does not seem better, I would definitely ask to come back in.
(BTW, the best antibiotic we saw results from was Bactrum.)
Thanks. I talked to the nurse this morning. They said unless he had fever or wheezing they wouldn't see him again until he has the full 10 days of amoxicilling. They did tell me some things we could do for the coughing so I am going to try those today.
He is going to my parents tonight so that I can get some sleep and hopefully get myself better.
