3rd Trimester

Ok now I have put myself on bedrest :-(

We had a very eventful holiday weekend, BBQ's Maternity photoshoot, Me shopping (A LOT).

Yesterday my feet started swelling badly at my in-laws family BBQ (it was 96 degrees) So I went home and soaked my feet in cool water with sea salt and epsom salts (it did not help) so then I just decided to put them up....this morning I wake up and my left foot is still swollen and I have a Charlie Horse in my left calf Sad Through my whole pregnancy I have never woke up with a swollen foot, so I am a little concerned....I have placed myself on strict bedrest until my appt. on Thurs. I am hoping it will help.

Any advice ladies???

  • water, water, water.  Drink as much as you can!  It will help with the swelling.

  • Do you have a swimming pool in your area?  I've heard that being in cool water up to your heart will work.  I swam this weekend and experienced little swelling for once. :)  If not, a cool bath might also help.

Besides that, I would drink a TON of water and watch your salt intake. GL!

    will do! thank you Smile

  • If it's one foot..and not the other.. you should really mention it to your doctor.  It could be a blood clot.  Don't worry - it could still just be "normal" swelling.. but you really should let your doctor know!

Other than that.. try to keep your feet elevated..drink lots of water.. avoid salty foods.. make sure you're getting enough potassium.. and go for frequent walks but dont stay on your feet too long.  Oh and of course try to stay out of the heat!

    Hope you feel better!!!

  • My feet have been swollen since 22 weeks.  If one foot is MUCH more swollen than the other, this would be a cause for concern.  You probably just overdid it on the weekend.  Put your feet up and drink a ton of water.

Someone commented to me today that my legs looked swollen.  I looked at my legs, then said to them "Oh this isn't swollen.  You should see them tonight!"  Ugh.  They say delivery is the ultimate cure.  Well, here's hoping baby decides to come soon!

  • Keep your feet elevated, drink lots and lots of water (way more than you think you need to) and keep inside with air conditioning.
  • I had the same problem with swelling, about a month ago we moved, so I was on my feet most of the weekend, I worked from home on Monday because I was so swollen, I had gained over 5 lbs from Thursday to Monday because I was so swollen, I went into the office on Tuesday and when I got home I was even more swollen.  DH said my left foot looked like it was going to explode.  I stayed home the rest of the week and just drank a ton of water and laid on the couch with my feet elevated and by Thursday I had lost 6lbs, on Friday I talked to my doctor about writing me a note to work from home for the last two weeks before I went on maternity leave.  Since then my swelling has been under control.  I still have some normal swelling, but it's not huge like it was.  The nurse that did my NST said it's all about water intake and feet elevation and resting.

My feet were so swollen last night too. I guess it's all this heat. I am taking some of these tips too and hoping for the best. I can't stand fat cankles!
