Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Learned something new from OBGYN

When discussing our birth control plan I told him abstinence for quite some time still since with the other two it was painful for a long time.  Then he could tell I was in a lot of discomfort during the 6 wk exam.  He said that since I'm breastfeeding my estrogen is low so my tissues are all thinner and that is a reason I'm in pain.

I don't want to discourage anyone from bfing, but I like having a reason for my pain, besides the fact that I'm a baby:)

  • yes, but lube helps.

My doc suggested specific lubes that help with this issue.

  • Hmm. I'm the same way as you. Poor dh...lol. Interesting to know.
  • I've heard of dr's prescribing estrogen cream when women have a lot of pain after having a baby.

if you are in severe pain, ask your doctor if he could give you some estrogen. I had this same thing you are describing when I was BFing and sex was so painful I can't even tell you. He is right that it's an estrogen issue. I put estrogen caps up there and some creams on it and it went away. I would have been miserable for a very long time had I not done this.

  • My OB was shocked I'm NOT bf because my estrogen level is low causing pain as well. 12 weeks today and DH is not going anywhere near me anytime soon. I was just in last week because of pain still, so they are actually putting me on meds to "trick" my nerves down there.

Yes, and it is very effective.  With my first DD, it fixed the problem in under 2 weeks.  I'm hoping it works as well this time.

  • did he give you a script for estrogen cream, it really helped after I had DD #1
  • Lube helps. My dr advised against the estrogen cream b/c it can still be absorbed and affect supply.

  • My doc suggested lots of lube. That said, I was only cleared this week and we haven't had the opportunity yet... I'm kind of scared.
