My DS just turned three months. Lately, it seems like he does not want to be held at all. He squirms all over the place, making it near impossible to get a grip on him. He seems happiest on his playmat, pulling at his toys, babbling, etc. I do my best to entertain him while he's there, making faces, jingling toys, singing. He loves it all, smiling and laughing. Of course, put him on his tummy and the party is over. He absolutely hates it. I just was wondering if this is normal. If he's happy is it possible to spend to much time playing in his mat? Should I be holding him more? I'm just afraid that he is not getting enough stimulation. Any suggestions you ladies may have would be much apprecitaed.
From what I gathered, it is very important that they are learning on thier back and tummy right now. It will help with them becoming mobile also. As long as you are not using it as a long term babysitter - you should be fine.
Up until 2 weeks ago penny disliked being on her tummy. She also turned into a squirmy baby. She loves being on her playmat or in her bumbo chair playing. I think she is just moving to a more independent stage and your little guy maybe as well. It sounds like you are giving him more than enough stimulation
The boppy made tummy time way easier for us and was a turning point for going from torture time to party time.
As for playing on the play mat too long, I'd say let him enjoy it while he still fits under it. LO still plays on her mat for up to an hour at a time before she wears herself out and goes to sleep and has been doing this since about 8 weeks old. I did keep flipping her over to her tummy for a minute here or there until she started liking tummy time and would go longer. I think so long as you still squeeze in some tummy time your doing fine with all the play mat time.
