I need sunscreen recs for my eczema baby!

I thought he was doing alright with the Aveeno but yesterday I found eczema break-outs all down his legs.  I feel really bad, covered him with his eczema cream and they are looking much better today.  I'm pretty sure it's from the sunscreen.  We've tried California Baby and Aveeno, both with bad reactions.  Is there a prescription sunscreen that we can try?  I'm at a loss, and the kid needs sunscreen!

  • It's a little pricey, but the Arbonne Baby Care line has a sunscreen that has worked wonderfully for my little guy.  I like their lotion & body wash too but as he's gotten older, I've quit buying that stuff and just get the sunscreen.  His pediatrician recommended the Arbonne stuff when he was about 6 months old and we were having a hard time keeping his eczema under control.

We've tried it and it made him break out in eczema worse than the Aveeno.

  • It's not a sunscreen lotion, but have you heard of Halo's clothing called Technical Comfort?  It's designed for babies/kids with eczema and also have spf 30.  It's suppose to reduce itching and irritation and wick away moisture.  And the fabric is very soft and breathable.

Me too. And my daughter has HORRIBLE eczema. She is on prescription meds and sees a dermatologist already. Had no issues with the Neutrogena.

  • We use the Aveeno.  I've heard the Arbone or what ever it is called works well.  I just don't want to pay $14 dollars for a tiny bottle of sun screen if something else works for us.  My SIL uses Neutrogena on my nephew and she likes that.

  • My youngest son has bad eczema also and uses an rx cream for it so I was nervous to use a sunscreen too.

I know you said that you used Aveeno, which type of their sunblock did you use? I know that they have multiple so that's why I am asking.

We are using  imagewhich is Aveeno Baby, Continuous Protection Sunblock Lotion SPF55.

We used it on him the first time yesterday and so far it looks like it's going to work out okay.

  • Blueshirt - That's the exact bottle I have. Sad  I heard good things about it so I thought it would work.  I guess I'll have to try the Arbonne stuff.  If that doesn't work, I guess it's long sleeves and pants forever, kiddo!

I agree, it is expensive but I have been able to find NIB bottles on Ebay and save a little money.  I may have to try the Aveeno since so many people say they have good luck with it - we've used this since 6 months and since it worked, I never tried anything else.

  • I use vanicream for my son's eczema. He has an rx for it, but you can buy it otc. Also BEB told me that they now have vanicream with sunblock in it.

We use Vanicream too... I'll talk to his pedi about the kind with sunblock.  Thanks!
