Kindermusik class today: did not go well!

So Kennedy went for her first Kindermusik class at UA today... and it did not go well. There were about 7 other babies in the class.. one was the same age as K, one was slightly older and the rest were between 2-6 months old or so.

Basically, K spent the hour not singing or dancing to the music or following directions... but instead stealing the other baby's maraccas, taking their scarfs they were supposed to be playing with... at one point she took the teacher's remote control and changed the song (she didn't know what she was doing though, she just likes remotes.) Then, she decided to go to a wall mirror and started "kissing" herself and blowing raspberries on the mirror!

So embarrassing to be the mom with the "wild" child.  All the other kids were sitting, acting well behaved but I couldn't get K to sit for the life of me.

Part of me wonders if she would enjoy the toddler class more. (The next class starts at 18 months. She is only 13 months old, but she is one of only two in her current class that walks and she seems a little reckless around the smaller babies.)

Not sure how to handle it. We've paid for the class through June. I plan on taking her again next week to see if she improves. I wonder if I should ask to see if there are any openings in the 18 month - 2 year class? Even then, they might be beyond her skills, communication wise.

Re: Kindermusik class today: did not go well!

  • Oh that sucks.  I tried a little gym class w/ Avery and it was an epic failure.  she just got totally overwhelmed with it all and it didn't go well.

Maybe you could practice what they did in class at home?  or maybe she will get used to it and figure out what the 'rules' are?

    Good luck!

  • Caroline is in a similar music program (has been since she was 6 months old).....and that's exactly the way she behaves, actually, all of the kids do and she's the youngest in our class.  It's just that age....no need to be embarrassed!  When she finally started crawling, she would crawl around and go visit the other moms and babies, instead of sitting on my lap.

I would try to see if there is an opening in the toddler class.  And just because she doesn't "seem" to be participating, it doesn't mean that she's not getting something out of the program.  We so Music Together and have the CD's in the car.  The minute I start the car, she asks for music and then sings along with all of the songs....it's SO cute!
