DH and I are trying to plan a trip at the end of June/beginning of July, but we can't decide on a location! I'll be around 23 weeks so I can't go somewhere too hot/humid and I want there to be lots of opportunity for sight-seeing.
We're really wanting to travel to Europe. We're thinking a bus tour type thing would be good to cut down on the walking.
Ideas? Where are you ladies going before baby arrives?
I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.

Re: "Babymoon" planning
We'd be flying out of Toronto, Buffalo, Rochester or Detroit... whichever is cheapest. I'm worried about the long flights too...

MH and I went to Mexico when I was 15.5 weeks (a vacation we had already planned) and we are planning a long weekend at Cape May for our anniversary when I will be 34/35 weeks. It was nice to relax and sit by/in the pool. I've never traveled to Europe (A big regret of mine, so we are planning a trip to London after LO arrives!) so I cannot comment on a bus tour or sightseeing. I will say most of my friends/coworkers have done a relaxing trip.
I am currently 24 weeks (tomorrow) and just had major difficulty walking around town with MH. It is about 92 degrees outside and I had to keep stopping for breaks. I was an avid runner before this pregnancy but dr. had me stop because of my m/c history. I have been walking between 2-3 miles a few days a week and exercising. However, starting around 22 weeks, I began to have major troubles walking so I would be careful with how much you base your trip around sightseeing. HTH!
I vote for Europe!!
We've been living in Europe for almost two years, and there are many quick and easy ways to get around without being confined to a bus tour. If you do some planning ahead of time, you can do some great (cheap) train trips to a couple different cities and spend a few days at each place, look around, enjoy your hotel, eat amazing food, etc.
We taken many day trips to France, Austria, Switzerland, and all over Germany. The great thing about most of Europe is their public transportation systems (bus or train) usually run quite smoothly and are easy to figure out.
A side note- some of the countries (Italy and Germany especially) will probably be CAH-RAZY while you're traveling because of the World Cup. Personally, I think it'd be awesome, but just a warning. Germany is already losing "its" mind and will still have two weeks until the first game.
My mom (in her 50s) has been on two river cruises and they were spectacular. She's totally not the "planned tour" type either but there's so much freedom to hop on and hop off whenever you want on these things. (To compare, she one took a bus trip of Scotland and was all "NEVER AGAIN." She felt like cattle.) Yes, the crowd is a bit older.
But my husband and I (30) just got back from our baby moon to the Caribbean. We stayed in an all-inclusive and I'd say everything was lovely except for the fact that almost everyone there who wasn't there for a wedding (built in "groups") or on their own honeymoons (and therefore wanted to be alone) were definitely older. We expected more socializing, but it was really just us.
This is totally TMI, but Baby came into being while we were traveling through Austria in January! I LOVE Austria - namely Vienna and Salzburg, but I'm not sure if I would feel comfortable on a long trip now to Europe. It just seems really far and I know that I would want to see EVERYTHING and exhaust myself.
For our Babymoon, and I am NOT what I would consider a "Vegas" person (i.e. I hate the pretend architecture, obviously can't drink right now, and don't really gamble), but this was actually the PERFECT Babymoon location! The spas in Vegas are fantastic! We stayed in a suite at the Vdara for what a crappy room would cost anywhere else. We ate at all of our favorite places - MIchaell Mina, etc. We went got perfect seats for Phantom. And we just hung out at the pool being pampered when we weren't eating or getting a message! Yes, it will be really hot, but that makes a dip in the pool so much nicer. Otherwise, it's pretty much all indoors (spas, restaurants, shows, etc). And plane tix and hotel rooms are always so reasonable.
Whatever you end up doing, have a great time! I'm totally considering having another Babymoon because we had so much fun!
We did a long weekend in Dublin last spring and loved it. I would like to visit Galway next.
We just returned from Punta Cana, which was nice. I don't know where we will go this fall, before baby is due. Paris would be nice. Or maybe San Francisco?
We're leaving for DC tomorrow! So excited! And we're taking our annual trip to the FL Keys for lobsters season at the end of July. I'm psyched about that as well, but probably won't be diving and going out on the boat all day every day, so it'll be different. Instead I'll be hanging out by the pool and shopping with my mom and aunt, so I think I'll live.
I wouldn't recommend flying to Europe though. I had a hard time with that the two times I did it and I wasn't pregnant! It's exhausting, hard to get comfortable and stressful, and that was when I was just out of high school!
Our honeymoon is now a babymoon, too. We're going to Norway for 10 days at the end of August; I'll be 26 weeks. We were going to do a cruise at first, but we realized this wasn't the most effective way for us to fit as much in as possible. Now we're doing it all on our own, and we can't wait!
What cruise lines won't let you travel after 24 weeks? I didn't see any of those restrictions when we were researching our trip.
If cruises and bus tours won't work for you, going it alone is so much fun. Planning and researching a trip is 1/2 the fun for me! Traveling Europe by train is great. Easy to get from location to location, plus it's a great way to see a lot of scenery while en route.
I saw it on Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian I think. It's pretty common.
