2nd Trimester

Compression socks :(

I am 26 weeks along and ever since Tuesday my feet and ankles have been swollen beyond belief! They are obese! When seeing my Dr. yesterday she recommended compression socks since I am on my feet a lot during the day. I'm not too excited about it. I bought 2 pairs and will give them a try tomorrow at work. I wear scrubs so at least they will be hidden, but I can not imagine how hot my legs will be with knee high tight socks! I feel like an old lady. Have any of you had to start wearing these? Did they work?

Re: Compression socks :(

  • My sister does Ironman triathlons and wears hot pink compression socks almost all of the time!  She looks totally awesome wearing them.  I think that you should just find some really cool ones and embrace the awesomeness of the compression sock!

  • You are so sweet. I'm now googling them so I can find a cute pair for around the house Stick out tongue
  • I work in a hospital, and have always worn compression stocking...even before I was pregnant.  I am so used to them now, my legs feel awful without them.  They really work to decrease swelling.  Good Luck!

  • My DH insisted I start wearing them after he had a pregnant patient needing daily heparin injections at 18 weeks for a DVT (he and I are both pharmacists).  So I bought 3 pairs and try to wear them to work.  I'm really bad about washing them though, so I tend to wear them for 3 days straight and then put of washing them for a week, and then wear them again.  They do get a little warm, and it's a bummer that you can't wear flip flops (which I like to do every once in a while when it's hot at work...although I'm not really supposed to...), but they really do help with the achy legs and what not.

  • I had to wear these with my DD because of the veins popping up in my right leg.  It was easy to wear with her because I went through the winter but now that it is summer it will be very hard!
  • I am a nurse working 12 hr shifts and I have worn them ever since my first DD. I kept wearing them even when not pregnant because literally, my feet don't ache as much at the end of the day if I'm wearing them. You do get used to them, and pretty soon you won't even notice them. But I know - it does kind of make you feel like grandma.

  • I honestly think that they would be so excellent! I was actually trying to figure out if sleeping in them would be ok because my legs cramp uncontrollably at night. But if I were you get some colorful ones and have fun with it!

  • I need to invest in some good ones myself. I'm also a nurse and wore them with DS at the end of my pg.  I would get so swollen.  I've already noticed some mornings that I'm swollen after a crazy night.  I have a couple (young hip :) ) coworkers who wear them all the time and they say it really helps your legs and feet not be sore at the end of the night.  I worry about getting hot in them too, I hate being hot, but I don't remember it being that much of a problem with DS and they did help.
